To The Editor: This is in response to a totally irresponsible Spout Off regarding the Cape May Housing Authority, which appeared in the April 23 issue of the Herald. Many false statements were made that disparaged the quality and cost of the housing provided. The authority has been rated a high performance agency for the past five years. The Federal Housing (FHA) through Housing and Urban Development (HUD) gives this rating. The grounds are well kept, and baths are replaced on an ongoing basis. Playground swings were removed at the direction of our insurance carrier due to vandalism. There is a playground, complete with basketball courts, adjacent to the authority’s housing. The Broad Street parking lot will be repaved in the near future. We are waiting for approval by ordinance designating fire and handicap zones. Our rents are minimal, and include everything but cable TV and telephone services. I would like any malcontent to know they should make an effort to attend our meetings. If their allegations are valid, we would be willing to listen to all comments, good or bad. Our meetings are held at 4 p.m. on the third Monday of the month at the housing authority office. If we were doing as poorly as the spouter portrays us, I doubt we would have approximately 50 applications on our waiting list. JOSEPH W. FOX Chairman Cape May Housing Authority Cape May
