An exiting program “Let’s Go Offshore Fishing!” will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, May 16th at the Lower Cape Branch of the Cape May County Library, 2600 Bayshore Rd., Villas.

Charlie Langan of South Jersey Marina gives an informative presentation on offshore fishing, a sport that everyone should try at least once in their lifetime. Offshore fishing is an adventure that takes you to the edge of the Continental Shelf about sixty-five miles from port, where the waters are hundreds of feet deep, have the warmth of the Gulf Stream from the south, and therefore, are the home of many species of smaller bait fish as well as offshore fishing’s targets…the BIG game species.

Due to the fact that big game fish are migratory, the search for Shark, Marlin, Tuna, Swordfish, Dolphin and Wahoo are best at different times of spring, summer and fall. Offshore fishing trips are generally of twelve hour duration, allowing enough time to get to the proper destination, fish for six hours and return, although twenty-four and thirty-hour trips are available.

South Jersey Marina has been a Fishing Center for over twenty-five years. Located next to the Lobster House Restaurant in Lower Township, they currently have 12 charter boats which make up the largest sport fishing fleet in the area with boats ranging in size from 37’ to 56’ in length.
