As the sun sets over the bay in Ocean City, night herons stake out
pilings and egrets head toward the rookery, the Wetlands Institute and Ocean
City will officially begin a new partnership.
The Operation Osprey in Ocean City gala on Thursday, May 1, will feature a selection of wines, delicious food, a silent auction and some background about the new
partnership that will promote the Bayside Center's exhibits and programs that
will help acquaint people with the center and instill a greater appreciation of the local coastal environment.
Ambassador William J. Hughes is serving as honorary chairman of the event. Tickets are $50; call the Wetlands Institute at 368-1211 or the Ocean City Chamber of Commerce at 399-1412.
The Wetlands Institute has already installed a wireless osprey nest cam
powered by the sun so that Bayside Center visitors can watch a nearby osprey
nest. The Institute is also expanding its school program to include an ecology lesson and improved exhibits including a touch tank with local marine life. This summer, the Institute will have additional camps for youngsters and programs in Ocean City that include a weekly sunset cruise aboard the Duke of Fluke and Family Nights each Thursday at the Music Pier on the Boardwalk.
