East Lynne Theater Company will have two audition days of open calls for Equity actors. On Friday, April 25, from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the call will be at the theater's venue, The First Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes St. in Cape May. Sign-up for auditions begins at 12:30 and continues through 8:55, with a meal-break from 5:00-6:00 PM. On Wednesday, April 30, from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, the call will be at the Actors’ Equity Audition Center, 165 West 46th St., 2nd Floor, NYC. Lunch break is from 1-2 PM. Non-union actors will be seen as long as no Equity actors are kept waiting.
The company operates under an Equity SPT 3 Contract with rehearsals beginning on Monday two weeks before the opening-performance week, and a Wednesday through Saturday night performance schedule. Artistic Director, Gayle Stahlhuth will be at the auditions. Actors are asked to audition with a brief monologue, or read from "The Guardsman" or "To the Ladies." Sides will be available at the auditions.
Seeking actors for the following productions: "You and I," a 1923 comedy about marriage and careers written by Philip Barry, who later wrote "Philadelphia Story," running from June 16-July 12 (no performance on Fri. July 4, but added show on Sun. July 6), directed by Gayle Stahlhuth; "The Guardsman," written by Franz Molnar and produced on Broadway in 1924 with Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontaine, running from August 6-30, directed by Karen Case Cook; and "To the Ladies," written by Pulitzer Prize winners George S. Kaufman and Marc Connely in 1922, about a young businessman and his clever bride, running from September 17-October 18, directed by Gayle Stahlhuth.
"You and I": (the cast from the 2007 production is returning, so seeking only possible replacements): NANCY WHITE – married and very much in love with her husband, Maitland, smart, charming and humorous, age range 40-50; MAITLAND WHITE – a winning smile that helps him in business, but his true passion is painting, age range 40-50; RODERICK WHITE – their son, whose interest in further study towards a career in architecture is not as important to him as marrying Veronica, age range late teens-early 20s; VERONICA DUANE – sophisticated for her years, dictates fashion instead of following fashion, in love with Roderick, age range late teens-early 20s; ETTA - the White's maid, whose looks prove she should be an artist's model; G. T. WARREN – a self-made man who runs his own company, exuding prosperity and good nature, age 50ish; and GEOFFREY NICHOLS – a successful literary man, and an old friend of the Whites. "The Guardsman:" THE ACTOR – married only six months and already believes his wife wishes to be unfaithful, flamboyant, witty, age range 30-45; THE ACTRESS – an equal to her actor-husband in wit and flair, age range 30-45; THE CRITIC – old friend of the Actor and the Actress and smart enough not to take sides, age range 40-50;
MAMA – retired actress who lives with the Actor and the Actress, age range 45-60; and one actor to double as THE CREDITOR and AN USHER – both lovers of the theater. "To the Ladies:" ELSIE BEEBE – a very wise newlywed who was raised in the South, age range 20-35; LEONARD BEEBE – a kind, loving young man eager to get ahead, age range 20-35; CHESTER MULLIN – friend of the Beebe's who is a fellow worker of Leonard's; JOHN KINCAID – head of the piano factory who gives the appearance of actually running it, age range 50-65; MYRTLE KINCAID – John's wife who is smarter than she might first appear, age range 50-65; HENRICI – office manager and toastmaster at a business dinner, age range 40-60; MISS FLETCHER – a stenographer who actually manages the office, age range 25-45; and one actor to double in the roles of businessman TOM BAKER and A TRUCKMAN – both men are self-assured although one sits in an office and the other drives a truck, age range 30-45.
