Philadelphia Police are offering an unusual employment opportunity to residents of Cape May County. Those interested can find out more at the Wildwood One Stop Career Center
The Philadelphia Police may be looking for you.
Philly’s finest are coming to the Wildwood One Stop Career Center, 3810 New Jersey Ave. on Tuesday, March 25 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Department recruiters will be on hand to answer questions for anyone considering a career in law enforcement with one of the largest police departments in the country.
There are a number of eligibility requirements to consider, one of which is not the department’s longstanding Philadelphia residency requirement. However, non resident prospects should understand that they would eventually need to establish residency within six months of satisfactorily completing their probation. The probation period lasts one year.
Other requirements? You need a valid driver’s license, a record free of convictions, proof of high school
diploma or GED. The department does not require a college degree, although in any modern police force, college attendance is strongly recommended.
There are a few tests candidates have to pass, including a reading comprehension exam, psychological evaluation and a physical fitness exam that includes running, sprinting, some weight lifting and calisthenics. All sets of tests are administered by the city.
There’s also a background check during which the department will contact former employers, family, neighbors to determine if you are the right fit for this type of work.
Recruits must then complete a 32-week basic police training course administered at a certified school.
There’s an age requirement as well. Candidates must be at least 19 years old but not yet 40 at the time of appointment.
Think you have what it takes? Call the Wildwood One Stop at 729-0997 to find out more.

Sharon Stocker from Wildwood Crest asked me to let readers know that the Crest Fire Company is holding an all-you-can-eat breakfast at the Rambler Road firehouse on Sunday, March 16, starting at 8 a.m.
For a mere $8 (Kids pay $5), you can enjoy your fill of pancakes, French toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, pork roll, home fries, juices, toast and all the coffee you can guzzle. I’ll get my money’s worth just on the caffeine.
Best of all, proceeds benefit the fire company auxiliary.
Buy your tickets when you show up hungry that morning.
