Bathers Want Spot to Shower, Change

bathers | 40 weeks 2 days ago | Comments 10

By Lauren Suit

WILDWOOD — “The beach is great,” said Jason Harting, of Philadelphia, as he was exiting the beach with a group of friends this weekend. “I just don’t like having to walk around under layers of sand for the rest of the day.”
Finding a place to shower and change, Harting told this reporter, is definitely a challenge.
“It makes day trips kind of difficult,” he added.

Cold Showers at two block interviles is a must, if you want to atract first class tourists.
Redesign parking and the city would get its investment back tenfold. Take a page from Florida, Start welcoming tourists instead of rapeing them.

Wed, 03/19/2008 - 6:58am

Good idea. but it can't be a public facility. At first this would attract those family day trippers we want, but soon it would evolve to use by all those types of people we do not want to attract, (and we cannot put that in print). Maybe we should go back to privately operatred changing areas. They should be expensive to use, but then a percentage of the cost could be returned in the form of discount tickets good for the remainder of that day.

Wed, 03/05/2008 - 10:54pm

This is so typical of the Wildwoods and the control of the Hotel Motel Association. They don't want day trippers! God forbid someone should come to Wildwood and NOT stay overnight. It has always been this type of backward thinking from this organization that holds Wildwood back. Maybe, just maybe a day tripper, if he had a nice time would come back and STAY!

Fri, 02/08/2008 - 4:34pm

Here's a clue, go home and take a shower and don't come back.

Tue, 01/29/2008 - 8:41pm

If you put showers then ,no one will spend any money, people come down park up the back streets leave there cars all day , get off beach change in car , eat there lunch,,then go to the board walk or go home, small fee should be charged

Mon, 01/21/2008 - 12:59am

There is a shower house on 24th Avenue, a half block off the boardwalk.

Sat, 01/19/2008 - 4:23am

Wake up Wildwoods. Tourists spend money, even day tourists. People need to clean the sand off after the beach. Take a look at Florida. All beaches provide shower spickets

Sat, 12/08/2007 - 5:16pm

I think they should have a place to shower and change it's a normal request give them a portable hot showers

Tue, 10/09/2007 - 8:35am

it would be a good idea to invest some of the room and tourism tax to build simple shower spickets on the beach near the boardwalk. This would be a much better attraction for the tourism industry than buying the new dump truck for the public works dept. The city has all winter to design and construct a shower spicket on the beach.

Where are these foot faucets? I've never seen them.

Tue, 04/22/2008 - 10:04pm

There is a web site that, like The Moving Wall, brings the Wall to the home towns of those named on it. The web site has thousands of personal remembrances honoring those who died in Vietnam.

The web site named THE VIRTUAL WALL at www.VirtualWall.org

THE VIRTUAL WALL web site does not accept fees, donations, or advertising in order to honor the fallen.

Realtors: Second Homes Remain in Demand

D.C. | 2 weeks 2 days ago | Comments 5

By Herald Staff

By Research Staff
National Association of Realtors

In spite of the downturn in home buying activity in 2007, the share of second-home sales was still significant. A new report from NAR Research – The 2008 NAR Investment and Vacation Home Buyers Survey -- shows that nearly a third of all homes purchased last year were bought as either vacation or investment homes.

this article definately does not pertain to te glut of condo and townhomes for sale on the island of wildwood. All in the name of change and increased ratables, the city administrations allowed the demolition of most affordable motels and replaced with condos and townhomes. But now, the city administrations have now said there is not enough motel rooms to hose events at the convention center. Unbelieveable forward thinking by a bunch of people with their heads in the sand.

Mon, 04/28/2008 - 12:45pm

missleading headline indeed. They are of course not speaking about the real estate market in Cape May County. It will be years before the glut of condos & townhomes are finally sold at sherif sales.

Mon, 04/28/2008 - 9:32am

The cold hard truth is...there are going to be quite a few of these "come lately" real estate agents who will be digging in the closet for their waitress aprons and tool belts in the next year. The ones who have been in it for decades will ride the crests and troughs as always, its the new blood that will scab up and flake off as sales cool and offices shrink.

Sun, 04/27/2008 - 2:40pm

Hahaha! A used car dealer told me it was a great time to buy a pre-owned car becuase they are in demand. Will the Herald be doing a story on that too?

Face it, the housing market is going to continue falling until people can afford to purchase homes with 20% down and a 30 year fixed mortgage. Until then, look out below!

Sat, 04/26/2008 - 8:15am

Very misleading headline!

"Vacation-home sales dropped 30.6 percent to 740,000 in 2007 from a record 1.07 million in 2006, while investment-home sales fell 18.1 percent to 1.35 million last year from 1.65 million in 2006."

Sales dropped 30.6% on vacation homes in 2007, you call that "in demand"

NAR is a business trying to sell houses, they should be treated as such. It is like a Stock Broker telling you now is a great time to buy Enron.
