COURT HOUSE — On Sept. 4, the N.J. Fraternal Order of Police announced its endorsement of Democrat George J. Hallett, former White House Secret Service agent, running for Cape May County Sheriff.

The endorsement was announced in the New Jersey FOP News, a quarterly publication that is sent to the N.J. FOP membership, according to a release.

George Hallett is running as the Democratic nominee in the November general election.

Hallett worked for the Central Intelligence Agency as well as the White House Secret Service under two presidents.

HEY....Let's call a spade a spade....the FOP is controlled out of Camden County by the Norcross Machine...SO let Camden Co run Hallett for Sheriff there...in the mean time...WE in Cape May County can vote for a candidate that has dedicated his entire career to serving the people of Ocean City and Cape May Co... Gary Schaffer

Again the Cape May County Herald is publishing information supplied by Mr. Hallett which is inaccurate. He was not a Secreat Service Agent and was not a Detective with the Prosecutors office. He was a uniform officer in the Secreat Service and an Investigator in the Prosecutors office. I can't remember ever reading a major case he was involved in. When his accomplishments are listed (the accurate ones) it should be clear he does not have the experience and knowledge as a Department Head where is his budget experience ? How many employees has he ever had under his command ? And he wants to become the head of an orginisation with 100's of employees. Also Mr. Hallett we are Correctional Officewrs not Guards, I think you have us confused with the Uniform division of the S/S.

(ED. NOTE: The Herald plainly stated "According to a release." The information contained therein was from the candidate. There is no indication that the candidate stated he was a detective. The Herald stands ready to print the opposing candidate's similar enforsements or releases, which will also state: "According to a release." It is the newspaper's intention, by printing such releases, that there be a public forum and discussion of the issues."

I would like to know where his funds are coming from, could it be the same place as his endorcements ? State orginiziations, out of County areas again non-residence of Cape May County still have the influnce and influx of out of County groups.

Fri, 09/05/2008 - 5:13pm

As a retired US Secret Service Agent I ask why the Herald continues to call Mr. Hallett a Secret Service Agent? With all due respect to my former colleagues with the Uniformed Divison of the US Secret Service, Police Officers at the White House are not Agents. It makes one wonder what else the Herald has not researched concerning Mr. Hallett's background and experience?

Fri, 09/05/2008 - 4:39pm

FRI 09/05/2008
I AM A MEMBER OF WILDWOOD F.O.P LODGE #7 OF WHICH I RESPECT VERY MUCH FOR ALL IT HAS DONE FOR THE LAW3 ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS IN CAPE MAY COUNTY. HALLETT SEEKS THEIR STATE ENDORCEMENT, BUT WHY
DOSENT THE LOCAL F.OP ENDORSE HIM OR FOR THAT MATTER WHY HASN'T HE EVER BEEN A F.O.P MEMBER

I HAVE PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE OF GARY SCHAFFER AS A MAN , FAMILY ROLE FIGURE AND HIS PERSONAL WORK ETHICS, I KNOW OF NOTHING THAT MR HALETT
HAS GIVEN TO THIS COUNTY, SCHAFFFER HAS PROVEN HIS WORTH WITH THE FINE TRAININGG HE HAS GIVEN THE FULL TIME POLICE OFFICERS OF THIS COUNTY
THROUGH HIIM BEING THE PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING DIRECTOR OF THE COUNTY,
HE HAS ENLIGHTEN THE PUBLIC OF THIS COUNTY THROUGH THE CITIZEN POLICE PROGRAMS PRESENTED EACH YEAR., MR. SCHAFFER HAS BROUGHT MONEY INTO THIS COUNTY THROUGH THE TRAINING OF POLICE RECRUITS FROM AROUND THE STATE, HE HAS PROVEN, AGAIN AND AGAIN WITH HIS HEART IN LAW ENFORCEMENT AND HIS LONG TERM LOGISTICS PLANS TO BRING OUR COUNTY SHERIFFS DEPARTMENT TO BE # 1 IN THE STATE OF NEW JERSEY, JUST AS HE HAS DONE WITH OUR PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING CENTER, REMEMBER INFRONT OF THE PRESENT PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING THERE WERE THE TRAILERS THAT HOUSED THE OPERATIONS OF THE POLICE AND FIRE TRAINING, UNTIL MR. SCHAFFER AND THE FREEHOLDERS OF THIS COUNTY FOUND THE NEED TO MODERNIZE AND EXPAND
THE TRAINING NEEDS THE COUNTY PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS AND OFFICIAL, THEY HAVE HIRED THE RIGHT MAN THEN AND THIS COUNTY HOPEFULLY WILL MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE AGAIN IN ELECTING GARY SHERIFF FOR SHERIFF, DONUTS ARE NOT IN HIS VOCABULARY.

Fri, 09/05/2008 - 9:30am

Gary Schaffer has dedicated his life to our community. He has shaped our police departments and fire departments through the great training classes that he demands from his instructors. CMC police academy is known nation wide because of his efforts. I have met hundreds of administrators and he is at the top of the list. I don't know anyone who has a greater work ethic.

Fri, 09/05/2008 - 9:15am

Looks like Mr. Shaffer has been working overtime on this board.

Thu, 09/04/2008 - 9:53pm

You won't find a candidate with more knowledge, experience and integrity than Gary Schaffer. Throughout his career he's excelled in every aspect and he'll make a great sheriff for Cape May County.

Thu, 09/04/2008 - 9:24pm

We need someone who has kept up with the times, someone still very involved with the day to day law enforcement tasks of today not someone who has been sitting at a desk eating donuts.

I plan to vote for Schaffer and so should you!

Thu, 09/04/2008 - 8:19pm

If he is sponsored by the FOP why has local lodge #7 posted any endorsment of him as our county sheriff.

Thu, 09/04/2008 - 5:59pm

With all due respect for the candidate, who in Cape May County is endorsing him? It's time for Cape May County to take back our community from outside influences.

Vote Gary Schaffer.

court house | 5 weeks 2 days ago | Comments 7

By Herald Staff

COURT HOUSE — Republican candidate for Middle Township Committee, Daniel Lockwood, on July 31 fired the starting gun in the 2008 race for township committee.

He "formally invited" his opponent, Democrat Mayor F. Nathan Doughty to debate the issues facing the township.

“We are waiting for my opponent to respond at this point”, Lockwood stated in a release.

The format and sponsoring organization will be mutually agreed upon when and if Doughty accepts.

Sat, 08/02/2008 - 10:06am

The folks of Middle Township deserve to have a choice. We may have a change in local
goverment with the election of Lockwood or it could be the same old politics.

Fri, 08/01/2008 - 4:08pm

I also like Dan's call for debates throughout our township...sounds pretty darn inclusive to me.

EdR

Fri, 08/01/2008 - 4:05pm

Well, I have learned that Dan, like the new leadership in Cape May, intends to bring inclusive government to Middle Township. I certainly support him there and hope, if he is elected, that this can evolve into a culture of inclusion within Municipal Hall...an environment where, for instance, the access needs of our disabled residents are addressed immediately. No nagging necessary.

Lockwood has been going to meetings for sometime. He has seen taxpayers are treated rudely and shut down. The mayor's standard answer is "we're looking into it" or "we'll take it under advisement". A simple task such as handicapped parking in the municipal parking lot was requested almost a year ago but they are just starting to address the problem now after constant nagging. Irrational spending and refusal to cut any spending. Yes, we do need someone who understands numbers, budgets, and is not bought and paid for by big contributors!

Thu, 07/31/2008 - 9:36pm

Actually, Dan has been going to Committee Meetings for quite some time - long before he was a candidate.

And, he has been active in the community.

Currently, there are no answers except to spend, spend, spend. I'd be happy for an answer for even a brief period.

In addition, given the difficulties with the accounting that are surfacing, having an accountant might be just what we need.

Thu, 07/31/2008 - 4:48pm

WHEN DID THIS LOCKWOOD GUY START GOING TO TWP COMM MEETINGS? EVERYBODY HAS THE ANSWER FOR A BRIEF PERIOD!

Everybody from West Wildwood was pulling for you Batten said if we have the intent to live in a town we are allowed to vote in that town , You owe a thanks to the residents of West Wildwood who voted for you

Thu, 06/19/2008 - 8:10am

Will someone please explain to Karen lane that she lost the election. Tow years in a row!
Her gang of disgruntled malcontents (see previous comment)only wanted to change the players. They offered no new ideas and came with no skills or experience. Stone Harbor will make more progress if these perpetual objectors would just accept reality!

Sun, 06/08/2008 - 9:46am

If "Proven Leadership" doesn't get proven, their days will be numbered. Stone Harbor can't stand still as it has in the past. Recall elections are easy to initiate. They will be held accountable for delivering the few things they said they could do. I hope the "friends in Trenton" are ready to deliver what they haven't delivered on in the past. Our Mayor may rue the day she ever made that statement. Let's see, new Library on the beach, beaches replenished, bays dredged (we saw what happened with the last dredging project) and a rejuvenated downtown. We'll see.

WEST WILDWOOD — Despite the results of the May 20 borough election still being contested in court, three new commissioners took the oath of office June 4.

Dr. Herbert C. Frederick, Gerard McNamara and Scott William Golden were sworn in by Municipal Court Judge Louis Belasco in front of a large crowd in borough hall.

Frederick was voted Mayor and Director of the Public Safety, McMamara as the Director of the Public Works and Golden as the Director of Revenue and Finance.
Golden voted no to all appointments, even his own.

You see the fox's are still trying to run West Wildwood with their hand picked cronies they are another form of the fox administration, I want to thank the people of west wildwood who voted for the Frederick, McNamara, and Hocker Team. Shame Hocker only lost by few votes I know that he would have been a great asset to West Wildwood but let us not count him out.

Tue, 06/10/2008 - 1:49am

Ha! The new mayor had nothing to do with it - the Fox team is to thank for that distinction.

Mon, 06/09/2008 - 12:38pm

Can someone explain why one of the first things the new mayor of West Wildwood does is cancel the July 4th parade.

Sun, 06/08/2008 - 11:13pm

Why is West Wildwood even a town?

Sun, 06/08/2008 - 9:47pm

this story is not over until the courts say so .

Sat, 06/07/2008 - 3:00am

The only "shock" is the one Fox and supporters are experiencing that their "reign" over West Wildwood is over with. "Free at last...Free at last!!!"

Fri, 06/06/2008 - 1:30pm

Your crude remarks only leads me to believe that you were the opposing candidates and if you are this is for you. You lost can't you take like men. As for bulling you seem to be the pro on that statement. The people voted for who they wanted. END OF STORY!

Fri, 06/06/2008 - 1:20pm

Your threats and negativity does nothing for the people that voted for the Team For Responsible Government. It's time to put your guns away and stop with the intimidation. We had enough intimidation for the past twelve years. We voted and our voices were herd. Get over it go find a good book and read it.

Fri, 06/06/2008 - 11:56am

Where is Golden when all these closed door meeting are occuring. Oh wait hes not there because Mr. Fredericks is braking the "Sunshine Act". This is totally rediculas how he brakes all these laws. He needs to be brung up on charges! "Kick Herb to the Curb!"

Fri, 06/06/2008 - 11:54am

Congradulations to Mr. Golden on becoming the Deputy Mayor!, Mr. Fredericks broke the "faulkner act" which states any civilan comminissioner that is appointed to revenue and finance must be Deputy Mayor!, Wow just another law Mr. Fredericks has broken. I cant wait untill June 16th 17th and 18th! Its going to be great!

Fri, 06/06/2008 - 8:25am

First of all, you people that voted for Fredericks and McNamara and say the people have spoken. Yeah, they spoke, all the way from Pennsylvania. Fredericks is nothing but a bully! He tries to intimidate people. He wants to be KING of the island! WRONG!!! He is messing with the wrong people. He used to be able to bully people to get his way. I'm hoping that the outcome of the court proceedings put him right where he belongs! Remember the Higbee Beach incident? I've been sitting back and watching Fredericks and McNamara riding around. McNamara is nothing but a puppet. I actually feel sorry for him. He is being made a fool of. I have not once seen all 3 Commissioners together riding around. How many secret meetings have Chuck and his puppet had??? Ever hear of the Sunshine Law? How much crap does West Wildwood have to put up with? I moved to West Wildwood from Wildwood because of the small town charm. If I wanted the problems Wildwood faces, I would have stayed in Wildwood. You think our taxes are high now? Get ready for the increase! As soon as he depletes the surplus...HELLO high taxes! By the way! REVERSE 911 was already started by the past Commissioners as well as a re-evaluation by Cape May County for taxes. Don't let Fredericks and McNamara take credit for that! Wake up WEST WILDWOOD! You are in for a shock!!!!

Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:34pm

I put it all together after seeing who attended . My guess i NANOS for police chef,Conte for code inforcement, one of your *** for fire inspector ,

Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:31pm

Fredricks and McNamara look good riding around together ,did you ever hear of the sunshine laws , after june 19 you will both look good in you cell.

Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:26pm

The one person has it right Scott is the odd man out , you dont want to be even with the other 2 Good luck Mr Golden,Screw with there money

Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:23pm

All you fredricks and mcnamara fans , see you in court.

Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:22pm

I hear fredricks is selling public works and the fire dept to wildwood , Thats could be good for Mr Golden , No public works means no public works commisioner, and no fire dept means no public saftey commisioner , We will have Mr Golden only .

Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:18pm

Waht where you residents thinking when you voted . Why would you put a builder in charge of a tax office , This just shows how stupid the other 2 are.

Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:16pm

What a circus ,I never seen a swear inn like that , Mr Golden stand your ground. You are better than them

Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:12pm

You dont put a construction specialest in charge of money ,Who elected these other 2 nuts, Its all a game to bully Golden, Dont give them the satisfaction

Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:09pm

Poor Scott Golden , Good Luck Scott, The other 2 commissioners will get theres.

Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:07pm

I work in wildwood ,Mr Fredricks is trying to sell off your public works building and fire dept ,and water dept, Everyone who voted for Fredricks wiill get what you want ,Wildwood ,not West Wildwood ,Wiat until your taxes go up 30 cents

Thu, 06/05/2008 - 11:01pm

people this is suppose to be a 3 person, 3 vote deal, smart gov does not put a person who specializes in construction in charge of 3 women and paying bills. Scott Golden is doing the right thing . He does not want to be mayor,I believe Mr fredricks screwed up ,Because Mr Golden is now your Deputy Mayor because he is in charge of the dollars

Thu, 06/05/2008 - 7:37pm

Here we go again. why doenst that other team realize that the people have spoken and the people we wanted were elected. I don't know what they are contesting, I voted that night and it was very organized and quiet. Did I miss something. Who doees this Scott Golden think he is and already to start a fight. He better get over it and realize he is odd man out. I want somebody to work for me and not the chozen few.

Thu, 06/05/2008 - 6:23pm

Taking an obstructionist approach Mr. Golden, is not in the best interest of the people who elected you. Unless you made it in on some quirk, realize that you are not the majority player and need to adopt a cooperative ethic and approach. I am not saying that you should compromise and negate your beliefs and principles at all. However, it would be pointless to persist in stymieing Fredericks and McNamara for the sake of petty politics. The people have voted and spoken and clearly did NOT want a continuation of the predecessor administration's polices and practices.

You have found yourself in a unique position. Make the most of it and attempt to develop and objective and diplomatic approach in your political activities when you feel it is possible of you to do so. Accommodation and a spirit of diplomacy will serve you, and the people who elected you, well. Forget ego. Move forward and don't look back. It's a new day in West Wildwood.

Thu, 06/05/2008 - 2:45pm

Scott Golden could make a fine commissioner although he voted no on all of the appointments. OK Scott we will forgive you this time, lets just chalk it up to you owing the Fox hand picked team. But come on now, get real you are the odd man out. Until you earn the trust and respect of the other two commissioners you wil stay just that. Where in the world did you ever get the idea that they would put you in charge of any hen house with two foxes still around. Sever your ties and be the man that we think you are.

Thu, 06/05/2008 - 9:01am

I am a resident of west wildwood and one of many other residents that attended the swearing in of the new commission I voted for the Team For responsible Government which didn't consist of the golden boy he was one of the other candidates you need to wake up you are in with the best team the only team that will stand by there promises and work for the interest of all of the tax paying residents both full time and part time.

Four more years of mediocrity and stagnation. Why because our town political machine is lazy and rife with the"good old boys". Fred's best. That has been and now will continue to be our off site Borough Hall . Check it out . Too bad the "Your Town, Your Team didn't enlighten to voters to that fact. Oh well a toast to the good old boys, you fooled the voters again.

Wow Stone Harbor spouter, those grapes sure are sour. Get yourself a "For Sale" sign, your life will obviously be a lot happier. Good Luck

Wed, 06/04/2008 - 9:15am

Riddle me this!
Why............In New Jersey's 3rd poorest county, that would be Cape May County of course, are their so many Republican voters?
Many folks working in Cape May County work for or just slightly above minnium wage, yet sooooooo many Republicans.
I think it is time to call the Rev. Al Sharpton for a full investigation!
LOL

Tue, 06/03/2008 - 11:15pm

When the Mayor pulls in first time voters from San Diego, it shows quite a machine. A machine that has returned her to office for now 16 years. The voters in Stone Harbor must really enjoy stagnation and mediocrity. As a campaign flyer said, " People usually get what they deserve." Way to go Stone Harbor you will continue to have no relationship with your closest neighbors, Avalon and Middle Township because your Mayor will not encourage it. She has done nothing and you seem to like it that way. Can't wait til January when the new look makes everything right because they are ,"Proven Leadership" Three peas in the pod of mediocrity carefully orchestrated by the Mayor. Bring the town together - wrong people to do that.

Tue, 06/03/2008 - 11:06pm
