Being a former Woodbiner, as well to have made my First Communion and Confirmation at St. Casimir's in Woodbine, I am deeply saddened to learn the parish may no longer exist in due time; a true shame indeed for their parishioners to have to travel further for worship; especially with the recession. I leave this heartfelt poem in dedication:

~Th’ Hymn of Saint Casimir~

~Saint Casimir~
Feast Day: March 4
Patron of: Poland, homeland of our Pope! Also Lithuania
Symbol: Lily (for purity)

~Mary Magdalene~
Seat of wisdom, Gate of heaven, Morning star upon th’ sea

~*~
Her morning star ‘pon th’ Holy sea,
His gate of Heaven aloft pious melody.
Seat of wisdom, O’ call ‘pon her lovingly;
singing in her songs of peace, ‘pon Her lea.
~*~
Gracious woman of miracles, wholesome
Mother of Creation’s King, a tender child.
So sweet, Her newborne; genteel and mild;
our graces flow thro’ Mary, ev’r lovesome.
~*~
Call her Mother, call her Virgin, Happy Mother;
a bless’ed oracle of our prayer, all Hail to Mary!
Daily sing, daily sing, sing my soul, sing to Mary!
Her Virgin blest, ‘tis Her sweet love aloft th’ nether.
~* ~
Mediatrix of all grace: bestowed Her sacral dress;
languid in th’ tear of Her pastoral, spiritual truth.
Saint Casimir, special patron saint of all th’ youth;
his heart’s devotion lain amidst his soul, so blessed.
~*~
'Pon th' hymn of St. Casimir~

Author’s comments: A divine dedication to th’ church I attended as a child in Woodbine, New Jersey of Saint Casimir’s, and to the late Father Darby, where I ascertained my First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Saint Casimir was born Prince Casimir on October 5, 1458. He was the third child of thirteen children in the family of King Casimir 111 of Poland. His mother was named Elizabeth, she was a princess of Austria. Even when Casimir was a young boy, he preferred prayer and good works to the luxury and comfort of the court life. He practiced many mortifications in secret. A mortification is something you do to make yourself a little bit uncomfortable all the time. It helps to remind you to be aware of God, to pray all the time, and offer the discomfort to God for the suffering of souls. Casimir was educated by John Dugloss, a holy man called the Canon of Cracow. He was also very good friends with John, and asked his advice on many things. He was especially devoted to the Blessed Virgin, and sang a hymn to Mary so often, and of his love for the song, it became known as the 'Hymn of Saint Casimir.' Some people say that he composed the hymn himself. "Omni die dic Mariae" which we know as "Daily, Daily Sing to Mary.”. Speculation would have it though, as we have so learned, that he did not write this said hymn. When Saint Casimir was almost fifteen years old, his father ordered him to lead an army into Hungary. The people there were dissatisfied with their king and had asked King Casimir 111 for Saint Casimir to become their king. Casimir didn't want to go, but in obedience to his king and father, he went to Hungary. By the time he got there, the people of Hungary had settled their disagreements with their king, Matthias. King Casimir wanted Saint Casimir to take over Hungary anyway, but the saint refused to replace a lawful monarch. He returned to Poland and went to the castle of Dobzki, where he stayed for the rest of his life, praying, fasting, and helping the poor. Casimir died in 1482, of tuberculosis when he was 24 years old, having spent his life serving a King higher than his father. On June 11, 1948 Pope Pius X11 named Saint Casimir the special patron of all youth, because of his firmly kept purity. A copy of the hymn by Bernard of Cluny was found beneath the right temple of St. Casimir's incorrupt body when his grave was opened. Thank you.

TOWN BANK — Haven House, a low-income senior apartment complex on Townbank Road, constructed by Diocesan Housing Services Corporation of the Catholic Diocese of Camden, is plagued with a number of construction-related problems ranging from water leaks, broken air conditioning units to a trash compacting system that can not be used.

The complex, behind St. John-of-God Church, started accepting residents in April and celebrated its grand opening last month when Bishop Joseph Galante, of the Diocese of Camden, cut the ceremonial ribbon.

Auditors have been going over books at Victorian Towers (another Housing Services Corp property) last two weeks of August. Now they need to look at Haven House and catholic charities/Housing Services of camden and connect dots.

It has been brought to my attention that many at Haven House don't have internet. Office of Inspector General for HUD (whistle blower office) has a toll free number. 1 (800) 347-3735 and a fax number (202) 708-4829. Call today!

I wouldn't put my parents in that dive. Seems like a waste of our money to me.

The "New project manager" in charge of this mess has No construction experience AT ALL (resume is posted in Housing Services Corp documents). That person never worked in trades, never banged a nail, never installed a pipe, never pulled a wire. That person was recently promoted to Regional Development manager. ??????????????

AUDIT, AUDIT, IAUDIT books of Housing services corp and all properties run by Housing services corp. Things do not appear right. Make sure its a outside accounting firm that does the audit. HSC gets a great deal of money from HUD. Most of it section 202. Victorian Towers is a section 236 thru New Jersey Housing.

Fri, 07/25/2008 - 11:41am

Speak with Tenants of Victorian Towers at 608 washington street Cape May NJ. This is another building run by the Housing Services Corp. Raw sewage backs into apts last 22 years, no one does anything about it. Mold problems, maintenance delayed year after year.

Wed, 07/23/2008 - 11:33am

$11 million dollars is a lot to give a bishop who's already proved he can be bought off by a mere $400k. HUD really overpaid.

Tue, 07/22/2008 - 6:17pm

The Housing services corp of the Camden Dioceses has no idea whats it doing. One of their complexs (Davenport Village) is sinking and entire complex must be torn down. . Stonegate (opened about one year ago) has alot of problems also. HUD should not give this corp any additional money.

What happens when there's a REAL fire somewhere else and someone's house is burned down because the fire dept was out on a false alarm at Haven House. They should be fined for all these false alarms. Sock them with a big fine - then maybe they'll spend some money to correct the problem.

Wed, 07/16/2008 - 10:27am

How about the 19 fire alarms since the place first opened I hope there never is a real fire at that location the residents are so use to the alarm no one even pays attention to it.

this property is example of everything that is wrong with government projects. Poor materials, poor workmenship and a project manager with no construction experience. Under no circumstance should the Housing Services Corp of Diocese of Camden (The catholic church) be given another cent. They did such a great job caring for your children, why shouldn't we trust the with 12 milliion plus. Wise up folks.

For the 3:30 AM poster---you're exactly right...I hear them SR Citizens are procreating at such a rate that our schools will see a significant increase in enrollment 5 years from now!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wed, 06/25/2008 - 12:24pm

wed 6/25 759 comment I hear the alarms were over 16 calls and the time for the construction company personal to respond was over an hour each time. The biggest concern was the people with no management on site I heard the alarm has been fixed But I really hope these seniors know what to do if a real fire does happen.

Wed, 06/25/2008 - 8:50am

3:30 AM Post....more words of wisdom from the Lower Twp Taxpayers Assoc.....Beware of these people...their only concern is getting their million dollar bayfront properties taxes reduced!!!!!!!

Wed, 06/25/2008 - 7:59am

Oh yeah, he cares alright. Ask him how many times the fire department has been there due to faulty fire system in that facility. Probably somewhere near 10 times, and there is never anyone there to let the fireman in to check on the seniors there. All Father Forbes cares about is how much do ra mi the church is taking in their tills.

Wed, 06/25/2008 - 3:30am

Thank you to all the Lower township taxpayers for subsidizing another property tax free building. One more to go.

Tue, 06/24/2008 - 6:33pm

Thank you Bishop Galante for caring about our seniors and opening a beautiful facilty for their well being.

Tue, 06/24/2008 - 5:49pm

When is the Bishop moving in? He's past retirement age after all. I'd bet he'd be good organizing canasta parties.

WILDWOOD CREST — Parishioners of the Church of the Assumption filled the pews in the sanctuary June 11 in an effort to show Bishop Joseph A. Galante that their parish is fighting to keep their spiritual identity as many churches in the Diocese of Camden are looking toward restructuring.

The Church of the Assumption would merge with St. Ann’s Church in Wildwood and would remain open only part of the year, under the diocese’s restructuring plan.

There are already planning for a shuttle during the winter months so folks can get to St Anns in the winter. I think alot of the LOCAL parishioners will enjoy attending services with the students and faculty of Wildwood Catholic. The interaction will be awesome. I only see the goods and not the bads of this merger.We need to stop badmouthing the Bishop and realize the facts. The church is not closing it is consolidating.

Wed, 06/18/2008 - 7:47pm

Bishop Galante will have a lot to answer for losing so many catholics that will be leaving the church and attend no regious service. Being a Bishop will not be enough to gain what he has been preaching for years. Life ever after.
