County Declares Limited State of Emergency, Tolls Lifted on Bridges

The Cape May County Bridge Commission has lifted tolls on Ocean Drive Bridges effective 2 p.m. Monday, May 12 until 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2008.

Grand Jury Indictments, April 1

COURT HOUSE — On April 1 the following individuals were indicted by the Cape May County Grand Jury. Defendants are innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt:

• Adam Watson, Robert J. Bilhardt, Feb. 20, Dennis Township, theft, conspiracy.

• Michael C. Walls, April 27, 2007, Upper Township, distribution of controlled dangerous substance (CDS) (marijuana), distribution of CDS within 1000 feet school property, distribution CDS within 500 feet public property, conspiracy, using a juvenile in a crime

COURT HOUSE — On Feb. 5 the following individuals were indicted by the Cape May County Grand Jury. Defendants are innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt:

• Kimberly A. Sager, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), hydrocodone bitartrate. Dec. 10, 2007, Wildwood.

• Dwayne Wakefield, possession of CDS, possession with intent to deliver CDS, possession with intent to deliver CDS within 500 feet of public property. Nov. 27, 2007, Wildwood.

• John P. Carney, possession with intent to deliver, Dec. 30, 2007, Middle Township.

DCA Awards County $15,000 in Disability Recreation Grants

TRENTON -- On Feb. 6, state Department of Community Affairs’ (DCA) Commissioner Joseph Doria announced the award of over $600,000 in Recreation Opportunities for Individuals with Disabilities (ROID) Grants. The funds will go to 58 municipalities across the state, including $15,000 to Cape May County.

“Governor Corzine’s commitment to assist those New Jersey residents with special needs is stronger than ever,” said Commissioner Doria. “This funding will provide a variety of opportunites for disabled children and adults who wish to engage in recreational activities.”

Will County Schools Lose State Funds Under New Formula?

TRENTON –– A new educational funding formula proposed by the governor puts Cape May County districts and poor urban schools on the short end of the $7.8 billion funding stick.

According to a release from Gov. Jon S. Corzine, the new funding plan, which would increase state education spending by $530 million over last year, calls for increases of between 2 and 20 percent in all 615 school districts.
