TRENTON — New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Charles M. Kuperus, Yvette Jackson, of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service, and Sen. Loretta Weinberg July 17 announced additional funding this year for a program that promotes consumption of Jersey Fresh fruits, vegetables and other local products for senior citizens.

STONE HARBOR — Fresh cut flowers, fruits, vegetables, bread, jam, berries and coffee can be found at the water tower parking lot at 95th here Sunday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon through September, depending on what the harvest has to offer.
Paradise Hill Farm provides fresh organic no-spray blueberries in the summer and dried cranberries in the fall. Owner Mary Thompson, at her first appearance at the market now in its third week, said she’s glad the borough could provide such a venue.
“We [vendors] even buy stuff from each other,” she said.

Woodbine Elementary School to Participate in National Nutrition Program

TRENTON — New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Charles Kuperus July 1 announced that 25 schools will participate in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program for the 2008-2009 school year including the Woodbine Elementary School in Cape May County.

As a shopper who enjoys buying locally grown produce since it helps support our local farmers, I am suprised why many supermarkets promote California items more often then locally grown product. I have always found that the NJ peaches eat just as good ,if not better then product that has been shipped across the country. How much fuel are these truck using to haul this product 3,000 miles......just thinking "Green".
Please support our local farmers to keep growing fresh product , its better then having them plant new housing developements . This is the Garden State, lets keep it this way.
