""the Herald allowing" ??? What communist country do you live in??? Why would you expect the Herald to censor someones constitutional rights to free speech?
We do live in a FREE country anyone can say what ever they want!
It's the LAW!!! "
Yes, censorship is acceptable when defamation of character & libel is a factor. Stating that a victim is deceased (that means dead, for those who don't know~) when she in fact IS NOT is not acceptable. This forum is acceptable if it were in another location, posting right on an article is irresponsible by the newspaper.

HERE WE GO AGAIN> with the Herald allowing Rumors to tear a town apart!!! Nobody died; but the Herald's Blog said someone did!! There was no delay in calling for Jaws: but the Herald's Blog said there was!! The Cops hate the Firemen and the Firemen hate the Cops; that must be the truth also because I read it in the Herald's Blog!!!
When stories and Blogs start getting crazy, why doesn't the Herald lock out the blog and the "BULL ***" ???? This paper along with it's SPOUT OFF does nothing but print rumors and falsehoods. Can't your paper see what it is doing?? I am not the only one who feels this way!! You have some good points but the rumors must stop!!

As a taxpayer in LT I'm wondering if my life is in danger because of this policy. I came from an area where the police had an emergency services unit that could handle such incidents without FD assistance. LT police do not have such a unit. It is far easier to tuirn around FD units that are enroute to an incident than it is to call them out once you discover that you need them. If the LT police have a problem withg the way the volunteers respond then they should deal with THAT problem but don't put MY life in jeopardy because you have a problem with the FD. Are we waiting for someone to die before we make changes. I don't call a carpenter to do my plumbing repairs, why would I want a cop to do a firefighter's job...

Most vol. firemen do it because it gives back to the community. I know most people cant believe that, but think about when you and your family are sitting eatting dinner or at 3:30am when you hear that siren. They are one of the only people that dont get paid to leave what they are doing to help someone out. Would you go around and bash people that donate money to a cause??? Well think of the men and women that put their personal life on hold to deal with someone else's problem. P.S. not that the PD and EMS wouldn't, but come on, 24/7 and for free. Thanks to everyone who helps. One of these days something will happen to someone and the community will find out the truth.

actuallly, not everyone gets dispatched right away, hense the discussion. good to hear the woman is ok, bad to hear it took so long for the jaws to get called. not bashing, ALL facts. sorry people dont like to hear the truth.
»
Sat, 11/29/2008 - 10:59am
I also have first hand knowledge of the "dispatching world", I don't know how it works in your township but I can tell you that in lower twp Ems is only dispatched to an accident when injuries are reported. As far as fire responding to an accident, they are only dispatched when requested by police or ems after they have arrived on scene. not from the beginning of the incident. When someone is injured a few moments can mean life or death... just think how much time is wasted with the protocols that lower currently has in place.
»
Sat, 11/29/2008 - 6:47am
If any of you know how the dispatching world works you would already know that when there is an accident the fire dept and ems are dispatched. Alot of time you do not know the patient is trapped in the car till you get there. It takes time to cut a patient from a car. WHY DONT ALL YOU PEOPLE THAT ARE BASHING THE FIRE DEPT, EMS AND THE POLICE STEP UP AND HELP SOLVE THE PROBLEMS OF LOW MAN POWER AND OTHER THINGS INSTEAD OF BASHING THEM.
»
Sat, 11/29/2008 - 12:30am
To 4:45 most of the time Fire and EMS are made aware that a patient has died because of the reports that get filed wth the state. Get your facts straight before you make comments! Whose the fool now????

I am glad to hear the woman is stable. I live in lower twp. and hope the chief's of all three depts. can work their problems out if these comments are true. A friend of mine is a firefighter in middle twp. and says fire, ems and the police all work well together. Maybe lower should look into middle's protocall's.

You know that last comment about the donuts and coffee was just rude! I can assure you I am not a cop or fireman and to judge them, get a life....How many cups of coffee do you drink? How many donuts have you ate? Last night I'm sure you plowed down some Turkey are they going to get critized for that too. Leave the Police Department alone already they are just doing there jobs. When they come to your door and answer your calls do you critize them than? I can almost bet you don't - go shove a donut in your fat mouth and shut up!
»
Fri, 11/28/2008 - 11:12am
I dont think ALL these comments are from police and fire workers, because Im sure if that was the case you wouldnt be here talking about them. And if they are they should all be ashamed of themselves for making these comments without knowing the facts. But who knows, Maybe they are just cranky from not eating enough donuts and drinking enough coffee.

No cop bashers here! It is fact, that EMS requested the jaws of life and the officers on scene did not relay the info to the dispatchers. The GOLDEN HOUR was spent on scene because of such ignorance! This is not the first time and won't be the last. It's a shame that it has to be this way. Again there is no cop bashing, this problem could easly be resolved.

I am a lower twp. firefighter. I think the police do a great job in what they do, day in and day out. They are normally the first ones on scene and they do put their life on the line. The problem is when their "higher ups" have to be on scene to make decisions. With the mva most of us heard the whole thing on the radio. It seems as if the pd thought the ems could just get her out. This would have been true if her leg wasnt pinned and if she didnt have to be placed on a backboard. What they dont think about is Mechanism of injury, when a car hits a pole so hard that the dash board and pedals impede on the driver there is a lot of force. That means the drivers body went from 40mph to 0 in a split second. That means her internal organs went 40mph to 0. EMS has to take every precaution to treat for injuries that you cant see, ie backboard, c collar. Jaws of Life are used to take the car away from the driver. This way the EMT's can treat the victim without moving her the "wrong way" and doing more damage.

Hello, this is a family member of the victim. I would like to inform you that she did not pass away. She is in the hospital in critical but stable condition. And for all the people commenting on her age and that she shouldn't be driving I would just like to say that ACCIDENTS HAPPEN! This could have happened to anyone regardless of there age. And I hope that none of you would ever have to go through this. Please when posting your comments think about the family and friends that might be reading this.

Its great to get these news reports online so quickly...BUT how about some updates. Did she really pass away? Were there really issues about how the accident was handled? I cant believe any police, fire or emt would let this woman lay dying in her car for 40 mins!! I wish the Herald would look over these comments and have some kind of quick reply to them. Rumors and Bashing in this county is way out of control!!!

what i would like to know is where everyone is getting there information about how long it took LTPD to get jaws out there.. it says firefighter worked for 30 min trying to free her from her vehicle... Once again cop bashers! Dont forget who keeps this town safe and who are the first to respond when something bad happens... what we need to do is get all the low lifes out of here!!

It is sad that a Towship should indure such ridicule to thier police department. I was at the scene of this accident ( I was driving down the road and stopped )and the jaws of life came and cut the woman out of the car, she was coherent upon extrication and the only visible injuries she had a broken ankle. The police responded within minutes of the accident and did a good job, a helicopter was dispatched to take her to the hospital. Support your Township and stop making up stories. We the taxpayers do not need to pay more money to investigate insinuations made by disgruntaled criminals.
»
Thu, 11/27/2008 - 10:45pm
If this is the truth that the police delayed the fire dept. response there should be an investigation. The police officer's job on an accident scene is traffic control and investigating not rescue or patient care. This is a discrace to lower twp. public saftey! I don't think the cops would like a firefighter or EMS telling them what to do about a police matter!!!!!!!

Come on people, lets forget about the age of this woman and think about the family of this accident victim. It is the holidays and I am sure that if it was a relative of yours in the hospital in critical condition you would not want anyone putting them down for driving when they are elderly. Just remember everyone will be there one day God willing. Lets hope that no one wants to take your drivers license away when you think you can still drive. Please be kind on this Thanksgiving Holiday and be thankful it was not your relative and pray that this woman makes it through and then maybe her family will take her drivers license away. I am going to pray for her and I hope you do to.

They say birds of a feather flock together, and the fact that Howdy works on a clam boat with a crew of men who have either been arressted for dwi, lost their liscence, done time in jail, countless attempts at rehab , and are all using drugs , where does that leave him ? If he wasn't into drugs then he wouldn't associate with guys like that !!
»

You are wrong 1:22 p.m. If someone is in an accident and suspected of DWI, you do NOT need a court order for blood. If the suspect is injured to the point where he is transported to the hospital and can't be tested on the alcotest at the police dept., then an officer will respond to the hospital to obtain a blood kit asap. Usually following the rescue rig. I send my sympathies to both families at this tough time. Show your love to your families this holiday season and always because you never know when God will call on you. Take care and God Bless you all and please don't drink and drive.

As one of the many persons who attended Denise's funeral yesterday - I can only say that the pain that has been put onto her family is practically unbearable. James has lost the love of his life and his best friend and the children will no longer be able to feel their mothers arms around them when they are in need. So so sad. Nothing can be said to heal their pain or fill the void that Denise's absence has left.

To all of you people and your ridiculous opinions and accusations i just want to let you know that you are not doing the world any good by leaving your nasty messages on this story. Charges and facts about the accident that happened almost a week go are still pending so you don't even know exactly what happened. Personally, I want to say my thoughts and prayers go out to the family and close friends of Denise. Howdy is my uncle and I love him dearly. For whatever reason God did not want his life that night. It is called an accident because it wasn't purposely done, it's kinda like when you spill a glass of of milk. Howdy is slowly dealing with both the emotional and physical pain from the accident and death of the other driver. The fact is, it wasn't by fault, but by coincidence. (Karen you need to learn to determine the difference between public and private.)

I would first like to say to James and the kids (all 4), I am so sorry. I had worked with Denise for 5 yrs prior. She'd do anything you asked of her. All this squabbling about fault is stupid. That accident was horrible. Maybe they had liquor unopened and it got punctured in the crash. Not even important. We should all keep both families in prayer.

First I would like to say to the family, I am so very sorry for our loss. It was not only the family who lost, but friends too. I will always be here for you.
I would like to say to the people who are criticizing people's spelling and punctuation on this article. This is all about Denise and her family, not your English lessons. These people went on line to say how sorry they are about the loss of a friend, not to be judged by people. You have no right to judge anyone. If you go on this site to correct people's grammer, then maybe you should not visit this site. This is for the grieving family and friends.

here's what harold's neice told me he WAS drinking at a beef and beer(earlier in the day) he doesn't remember what happenned he just remembers hitting something but i repeat he had been drinking in fact he's charged with dwi and not wearing his seat belt. you do not get charged with dwi when you are clean and sober. the only reason why if in fact his alcohol level came back 0 would have been that they took it later on. the fact is in order to do a blood test for alcohol you have to have a court order. and yes when god creats us he also decides when we will pass away........does it make it any easier absolutely not. do i feel bad for harold absolutely not. i feel bad for denise's family. NO child should have to deal with the death of their mother at such a young age. and yes i am aware some of her children are older but they are not 60 something and dealing with a natural death. my heart goes out to denise's family and friends.

I want to start off by saying to Sarah & James and the rest of Denise's family & friends that I am so sorry for your loss. I have taken the time to read all of the comments written and she seems like she was a very special woman who will be missed dearly. I am Howdy's sister-in-law Lisa I am not trying to make a saint out of Howdy he has made mistakes in his life as have all of us including myself. I just want to let you know that our family is feeling your pain & I feel Sarah put it best when she said that we will never know the same Howdy again, my children adore thier Uncle Howd as they call him and a big part of him will never be the same. Although it was in a different manor many of you out there are aware that we lost my mother in law way to early in life we to have children and grandchildren and neices and nefews who deeply miss her every day. So my point would be that all the people with the negative comments who want to jump to conclusions and cast blame don't waste your energy on all of that hate. No matter what happened it was an accident and I think that both of our familys need peoples support and prayers right now more than anything. Again to Denise's entire family I cannot put into words and how sorry we are for your loss. And as to those people who are "out for blood" I only ask you to wait until all of the facts are known before you pass your judgement and remember that he has to live with this by himself in the end regaurdless of who may have crossed the line.

He says right there that god takes everyone for a reason his mothers time here on earth was up thats a great way to look at it keep your head up hunny shes looking down on you and proud of you. For everyone that is talkin *** bout this man Harold becica i dont know him but from the lady who pass away child can except t hat it was an accident and live with the fact his mother is gone and he doesnt blame this man.. How can you?? Who gave anybody the right to pre-judge this man and her child dont even have hard feelings against him. He even states that he wasnt drunk either. Things happen i dont know either side of the people that were involved. But i can say that its a sad situation but whats sadder is the people who have nothing better to do then put someone down just for a horrible mistake that he made that went torribly worng. We dont no what hppened we werent there. What if he dropped something and went to pick it up and lost control. We have all done it. If he hit a tree and killed himself you all would be on here saying aww this is so sad i pray for the mans family blah blah blah stop judgeing because your life isnt so great you have to go and make some man feel even worse then i am sure he already does. No matter what anyone says this man is never going to be able to live normal again. But you will so stop being childish. I do pray for both families because even now its not fully over and everyone else shut up keep things to yourself. nothing is uglier then a person who gets a high off of making other people feel lik crap to cover up their life because they dont have one.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! First off I would like to extend my condolences to the families involved. That said...I have to address this. I cannot express strongly enough my shock and awe at the illiterate people commenting on this subject. It is like a really bad episode of "Attack of the Idiots". It is never ending and one post actually has MORE spelling errors than the last...if that's even possible. It is really embarrassing. I just keep wondering if all of the people commenting are products of the Cape May County school system. I pray that the people commenting are from all over the country and coincidentally spell and write that poorly rather than this being an example of what a poor education system we have locally. If not I'm going to home school my kids. I get that this is a passionate subject, but have mercy...please spell check, grab a dictionary...something. It is really hard to even follow the point when it is so hard to read. GEESH! And again, God bless both families.

I am sitting here right now, the night before Denise's service, reading all these comments and I am in tears! We all want to have closure, to make sense of this, but the finger pointing is ridiculous. My husband has been Denise and James friend for over 15 years. I am jealous that I've only shared the last 6 years of my life with them. James was the best man in our wedding 3 years ago. Their youngest daughter, Alyssa, is my husband's godchild. We spent countless weekends, birthdays, communions, celebrations for every and no reason at all together. And I sit here today, knowing they will never be the same. Denise had one of the biggest hearts I've ever known a person to have. She was straight forward and told you how it was, no sugar coating it. But that is what made her real!!!James, Sara, Janelle, Kevin, Alyssa...know that Bob and I are always here for you. ALWAYS! Whoever was at fault, whatever happened that night,is not for any of us to judge! We all answer to our own God when our time comes. We ask for forgiveness from our God on our judgement day. Please just pray for Denise's family to find their way. And pray also for the Becica family who will suffer in their own way. God bless us all.
Love, Jamie

A very reliable source just informed me that Howdy's BAC test came back clean, so everybody on here that's saying he was drunk, high, or whatever, the truth is he was clean, so shut the **** up.
As for his brother (who has NOTHING to do with this) being seen in Wawa with red eyes, my husband drove a tow truck for years and those guys are on call 24/7 working on very little sleep and are basically walking zombies. The hours are brutal and you hardly get a chance to eat or rest between calls. Anybody that says different ought to try being a tow truck driver-it isn't as easy as it looks.
Also witnesses at the scene say the woman's car cut off Howdy, not the other way around. Just look at the video footage-Howdy was going west and after the accident his truck is still in the westbound lane. Common sense tells you that wouldn't happen if he crossed the line into her lane.
I said it before and I'll say it again-Howdy is one of the nicest guys I know.Whoever said he was "selfish and vindictive" on here, you must be drunk or high yourself because those two words do not describe Howdy at all. I've known him all my life..have YOU??-D.C. in Salem County

Reading all these nasty comments on here just reminds me of the reason why I moved out of Cape May County...nothing but a bunch of *** who get into everybody else's business and talk *** without knowing all of the facts. I have known Howdy my entire life and he is one of the sweetest, kindest people I've ever known who would never hurt anyone intentionally. Unless you were at the crash site or were one of the arresting officers, you ought to keep your mouth shut until all the facts come out from the investigation, which remember, people, hasn't been completed yet, and probably won't be released for a long time. I understand when something tragic like this happens, human nature looks for someone or something to blame. If Howdy WAS under the influence, then he will pay the consequences. But reading all these posts on here crucifying the man before all the facts are known is classic Cape May County ***. My prayers go out to both families.-D.C. in Salem Co.

In reference to the Wed 9:46pm comment.
Who investigated before the Fatal Team was formed ?
Did someone get theirl feelings hurt at the scene. Let the officer do his job.
Don't let your personal feelings enter into the professional picture.
Especially at such a tragic time. Think before you speak.
Maybe we all should read and act on Shelly's comment.

People make bad decisions everyday, drinking and then driving is one of them. What we should all take away from this is to make better decisions before we act because our bad decisions could possibly effect more than just us.

For the *** who posted a comment about mike elias on 11/19/08 9;46pm,please learn how to spell it is investigators.I f you are implyig Mike talked to the Herald you are so far from the truth he never said nothing about who was at fault. When you post a comment like that also read it before you post it your sentence is missing words. It is a shame that jealously has to show it ugly head in the time of tradegy. These families our mourning and a uneducated *** takes senseless shots at a person I respect. I work with Mike and I learned alot from all of 20yrs experience and all his accident investigation experience. The Middle Twp Fatal Accident Team along with The County Accidetnt team will make it determation after all the evidence is examained not just mike elias. So in the future be a man and say it to his face not in a comment section of someone who just lost her life the family deserves more respect then that.

11/20@12:45 How can you blame God? You're saying that God decides that soemone should go in such a horrific way and others should simply die in their sleep? It was an accident caused by whoever crossed into the other's path. God didn't make this happen!

I have read every comment and can't help but respond. So sad...That's all I can say about this whole incident. First of all I would like to send my heart felt sympathy to both families. I have lost people in my life and I know how debilitating and difficult it is to endure. I hope that you have God in your life to help you all. This was a terrible accident. Unfortunately hundreds of thousands of accidents happen every day. People get hurt and some die. I just can't believe that the people in Cape May County are so cruel and judgemental toward each other. The facts of this case are not known, or publicized. How can anyone pass judgement on either of these people. Their families are devastated over this, I am sure. And I am sure Howdy is as well. Loss is never easy, but there is a loving God that will walk with us through this tragedy and whatever other tragedies we see in our lifetime. It just saddens me to see such an attack on people. As Jesus said, " Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." We are all sinners and make mistakes and no one should judge another person. Instead of pointing fingers, let's all say a prayer for everyone involved, that they can have some peace about this terrible loss. There is power in prayer. Let's do our part and stand together as a community and provide support to each other. God Bless, SHELLY

Denise's family, you all are in my thoughts and prayers. I bet when this is all over you will in fact find that Howdy was drunk. He was the town drunk, was at a Beef and Beer and then was at a bar afterwards....NO ALCOHOL, yeah, right. If alcohol was a contributing factor, I hope he spends some time in JAIL!!! What a shame.

This is a tragic situation that involved my daughters father and not her. Our hearts go out to the Cianchetta family for their loss. This situation does not involve my daughter so please leave her out of this. I can only hope that other people can be as mature as Sara was with the comment she had left.
