You’ve got to love Stone Harbor’s borough council. I think the gazebo idea is great. Thereby the children can frolic with the feral cats and the skunks in the evening after they’ve rolled around in dog poo and pee all day. It’s wonderful. The seashore at its best. Thanks Stone Harbor council. We’re really thinking through these things.

The Jersey Cape Dance and Gymnastic Academy put on a great recital even though the tickets were astronomical. They are told they must show up for practices and miss out on very important family functions like graduations and birthday parties for their brothers and sisters. I believe missing one day is not going to make them or break them. And if the kids do not know their numbers by now, then the teachers are poor teachers. The parents are afraid to speak up. This is a crime.

I was just at the Veterans Cemetery. A while ago, I was told that I had to remove all the flowers from my husband’s grave because last year they were going to do some big landscaping. As of right now, they have not done anything but one section. They do not cut the grass, they do not weed whack or weed. They take care of what can be seen by the road way and that is all. Taxpayers are paying for this to be taken care of, and it is not.

I was up on the boardwalk on Friday the 13th, and something really disturbed me. They were having a Latino Festival on the beach and they were playing rap music. It was blaring and talking about smoking weed, using the “N” word, and it had explicit sexual connotations. There were people on the boardwalk with children who could hear this. Wildwood advertises as a family resort, yet they allow something like this. I know that there is free speech, but the City of Wildwood issued a permit and could have had some control over this.

I work in a local business on the beach, and there are no bathrooms on the beach, which is a shady situation. Everyone comes into our business and uses our bathroom. Can’t the city afford toilets?

When I grew up, I graduated in a class of like 200 people. Today, Wildwood High School’s graduating class was 30 people. When is consolidation going to happen? This is ridiculous. They are cutting their funds and locals who work there. This town needs to consolidate their mayors, their schools, their towns. Too many chiefs, not enough Indians.

I would like to respond to the person who complained about the bulkheads on the water front. I’m a waterfront owner myself. I would like to put the blame where the blame should be. It should be the city of North and West Wildwood. On 18th Street along Delaware Avenue to 26th Street, there are no bulkheads, and to the end of West Wildwood, there are no bulkheads.

The 100th Commencement of Middle Township High School was disgraceful, and the most disorganized event ever staged by the board of education and superintendent. The administrators should be ashamed of the poor planning and lack of respect of the graduates. To top off the pouring rain and horrific lightning, Middle Township committee topped themselves by not having the common courtesy to reschedule their meeting and send someone to commencement. To the graduates of 2008, I’m sorry that the very people you were taught to look up to ruined such a big day in your young lives. Congratulations anyway. Your families are certainly very proud of you.

The water was turned off at Marina Bay Towers and part of North Wildwood. When were the senior citizens told about this? It was turned off at 8 a.m., and not turned on again until 5:15 p.m. In the past, Mayor Palombo always stopped in every month to talk to the seniors. We don’t even know who the mayor is or what he looks like any more. We feel he doesn’t care and doesn’t want to be bothered. He should at least let us know what’s happening around North Wildwood when it is an emergency or has to do with us.

Cape May, stop equating yourself with the Wildwoods. Wildwood does not need a monstrous parking garage; you do. Atlantic City Airport does. There is a marshy area on W. 26th Avenue. At night it is a haven for underaged drinking, drugs, and someone’s private toilet. The funny thing is that no one wants to take responsibility when you call to complain: North Wildwood, West Wildwood, or Wildwood. These residents pay taxes and should not have to put up with this every summer. And our children should not be subjected to this type of activity. It’s worse when summer is in full swing. Someone needs to decide who this area belongs to, patrol more frequently, and make their presence known who the proper authority is in this case.

Congratulations Wildwood Crest, you did it again. Who ever does the planning in the streets department should find a new job. Only in America: a monster causes the death of a person and goes to jail for two years. He gets out of jail, next thing you know, he is arrested for drunk driving, resists arrest, fights off two police officers, tries to grab a policeman’s gun. What is he doing out of jail? Next an even bigger monster goes to jail in 1981, receives a prison sentence of life plus 20 years. Next thing you know, he’s out in 1988 assaulting a person with a gun holding them hostage for who knows how long. What are these two monsters doing out of jail? What judges did this? The only thing I can say is “Only in NJ and America is completely and utterly insane.”

I need to comment on the spout off concerning Frances Avenue and that unit building. I stopped months ago walking my children to the bay via Frances Avenue. When the people who live there are outside you never know what you may hear. Now that school is out, there’s a steady line of young people up and down the street to that building, and their language is disturbing. Why doesn’t township council put a halt to this? It’s a disgrace.

Can someone please tell me why the property owners on Bayshore Road in Villas are not made to clean the sidewalk directly across from the Lower Township building? One property owner put up a new board fence and left all the dirt on the sidewalk, which now has grass two-feet high growing on it. A pine tree is hanging over the sidewalk on the corner whereas you have to almost walk on the road. The pinecones, weeds, and dirt that has accumulated on this sidewalk is unbelievable. Where is the code enforcer?

In regard to the possible 25-cent tax hike and the comments the mayor made: Are you kidding me? Sunday morning a street cleaning truck passes my door, cleaning a street that’s already spotless. Who is checking into cost saving cuts, and why do we need two trash pickups on my block? About four homes out of 30 use the second pickup. Open the trash yard to the public and we can take any extra trash over ourselves. It works in Philadelphia. Wildwood can’t afford more taxes.

Finally we have some regard for the safety of our kids by the Avalon Police Department. An electronic monitor showing a vehicle’s speed has slowed down many drivers who care. We still have some who don’t care. Leave the monitor on 42nd Street all summer. We could also use enforcement of speed limits to give tickets to those who don’t care. Avalon Police should be on 42nd Street with radar and ready to give tickets.

Concerning Wildwood’s expenses, last year with the Wildwood block party, they spent $32,000: $29,000 on entertainment and $3,000 on the sound system, for an eight-hour event. That’s $4,000 an hour for an event attended by 15,000 people. That’s $20 a person with free entertainment. That’s a disgrace. Where did the vender money go? Also they insisted on giving the chief of police and the captains a new contract last fall. They continue to pay 25 percent more than Philadelphia for a half-mile town. Unneeded money expenses again.

Recently, several Middle Township teens assaulted and robbed an elderly couple. Juveniles who commit violent crimes or commit other serious offenses should be tried as adults and their names be made public. Our society is too lenient on juvenile criminals. Let’s see: 80 students, eight teachers, nurse, etc. Is this a private school or public school? What activities does the school offer the students? With the attention each teacher gives per student, this should produce honor students. Is that the case? To the spouter from Cape May in the June 25 issue with regard to her Sunday stroll on the newly re-done Washington Street Mall and the two things the new mall does not have: She mentioned the now-departed trees that provided shade and shelter. The trees were removed because brand new water and sewer lines were put in place, and the tree roots were a hindrance. Those lines put in place in 1970 had to be replaced. If the spouter doesn’t like the red bricks, the lampposts and two fountains, take a walk someplace else.

Congratulations to the Wildwood Middle School eighth grade. I attended four graduations this year, and hands down this was the best. Very respectful and with the precision of a military drill team. Now if they could only stop the horde of parents and kids crowding the isle and front of the stage trying to get a photo while talking loudly, ruining it for anyone with a bit of respect for the process. I just saw where Avalon got state aid from Trenton (75 percent of $2.4 million) to replenish some of their beach that had been eroded. With our motels and restaurants struggling to pay our bills and make a living, the mayor smacked us in our face by letting over 300 young adults from drum corps stay in the new rec center and have full use of the new kitchen. Alaskans will be receiving about $1,500 each from their oil dividend. They get a cut from every barrel of oil they get off shore. So does the state. In fact, they have no income tax because the state gets a cut too. Instead of drilling holes in our wallets and savings accounts, Gov. What's with the new attorney for the borough? First he gets a huge pay increase, then he thinks it's okay to yell at people during a borough meeting. His outbursts were uncalled for. "There is no preconceived agenda or list of issues." That does not persuade me. It looks to me that the group doesn't want to be out front on this so will hide behind "anonymous citizens." Why not lay out your cards? As for population lost, it is occurring throughout the northeast. A NYC paper reports some 52,000 loss of students and similar losses statewide. They complained that teachers were still being hired which translates here into the need for retrenchment in local government spending. If some businesses go under, that's the breaks.

Children learn by example. At the Monday Sea Isle City School Board Meeting, the kids there learned a lot from their parents. They learned that if elected officials don't agree with you, you should then call them unethical, immoral and other disgraceful names. If that doesn't convince them to side with you, then you try to bully them with threats. If that doesn't work, then you tell them you know where they live. Because of the damage these lessons have done on our kids, maybe the school board should drop Phys. Ed and add a course in anger management.

I was proud to be a resident of SIC. Police were called to the school board meeting to handle overbearing adults acting like children who "just want answers." Like many children that do not listen, SIC elected school board members do a job. Ocean City should just open the doors of the schools for our kids and parents. OC should take our staff and costs and forget to be fiscally prudent. What large business plans this way and stays in business? The school board government was elected by a majority, and should do what they said they would do.

While driving through Wildwood Crest I noticed a golf cart driving down the street from a local realtor and am wondering if this type of recreation vehicle is permitted only in Wildwood Crest? Does the DMV license and register golf carts?

Why do Stone Harbor and Avalon insist on keeping two separate schools? Why not be proactive and start making decisions to combine these districts rather than have the state step in and make the decisions for us? It is only a matter of time until the socialist heads of NJ step in and take over. Our kids live on a 7-mile island and should socialize/learn together. Stone Harbor would make a perfect lower school, while Avalon could cater to the upper school children. The "great wall" between these two towns needs to fall. It is such a beautiful island. Let's unite.

The $1,200 increase I just received in my real estate taxes on top of the $4,600 increase I've received over the past five years has sealed the deal. A tax bill of $8,600 a year leaves me no money for the extras. So Wildwood business owners, I hope the people on the municipal payroll can keep supporting you, because homeowners are just about wiped out. Good luck with the downtown revitalization, it's been a slum for 20 years. What business can afford to move in given the current economic situation?

When the State of NJ decreased appropriations to local governments, the intended message was to decrease spending, not raise taxes almost 20 percent. Wildwood city administrators, wake up!

Wildwood is a disgrace each year. The budget is late, and the administration scares the daylight out of the taxpayers with monumental tax increases. Here is the bottom line: if we can't afford something, we cut back. Now you do the same. We don't want to hear nor will we tolerate excuses. Do the right thing — cut the budget before this is a ghost town.

Why aren't there any gift shops/card shops/book stores on Pacific Avenue in the center of Wildwood? Are the rents too high to attract any decent stores? It's a shame because in it's heyday, Pacific Avenue used to be a decent area with stores for shopping.

To the woman from SICTA who said the parents are a disgrace, you must be kidding. The voters were promised OC schools and now that has fallen through these parents are being held hostage by the BOE. Parents are sitting at meetings each week hearing "I don't have to answer you" from the president. I'd like to see SICTA spend one council meeting without answers or being timed on a three-minute timer for the public portion. It’s awfully strange that someone from SICTA is defending the BOE. Was the campaign "Best for Sea Isle Kids" or "Best for SICTA?"

News had SIC public relations representative on TV saying that its all about the kids here in Sea Isle. I think she should have clarified. It’s all about summer kids. The local kids are not allowed to be educated in town. They are supposed to be seen and not heard, and they are supposed to let the cranky people in town turn their school into a senior center. So no, it’s not about the kids; it’s never about the kids. It’s like the head of AARP said, "just face it, this isn't a town for kids; it’s a town for senior citizens."

I take offense at the person who thought the new mayor was more educated than everyone in the town. While some of us are college grads and post grads, school smarts does not make a person the best for the job. Speaking as a person who is in the education world, I would not want many of the administrators running my town. Knowledge is an acquired skill, which is learned everyday not just from attending college. Wake up people. Our town is being destroyed by corruption.

Judge Batten, why was I denied voting in Wildwood Crest when I owned a home there? Guess the Crest follows the Federal Laws. Saying you could vote in two different states, scares me. Our mayor is smarter than who? Why? Just because he insists on being called by a title makes him smarter? I think that makes him not only arrogant, but a bit ignorant. If he was so smart, I am sure there are other places in the budget that money could be used to accommodate such a wonderful family experience, but then again he said it a million times that the fireworks were a waste of money. I agree that the city of North Wildwood better start cutting the fat. There has been an electric car sitting in the lot behind the police department since last fall. What purpose does it serve? Does anyone use it? Why did the city buy it? I also think that the police department better stop purchasing large SUV's that are guzzling gas that we foot the bill for. What birdbrain approved vehicles that get 13 mpg at $4 a gallon for gas?

Mayor Groon, I appreciate cleanliness but I don't waste my time on needless cleaning and I hope my town would do the same. The street sweeping machines, that obviously cost tens of thousands of our dollars, make little to no difference on our already clean streets. I see the AC Airport is opening a huge new parking garage. My question is, for who? They don't have any carriers who go anywhere but Florida and their prices are one-third higher than Philly with twice the flying time (stopovers). So, if AC Airport wants people to use it (and I would love to), they need some carriers with western routes and some direct flights. They've just built another monument for nothing.

Three bedroom bungalows, ranchers and Cape Cods were replaced with 5,000-square-foot, six-bedroom homes. Residents of the old homes did three laundry loads and took 14 five-minute showers a week. In the new homes they do three loads and take 14 20-minute showers a day. The sod lawns are watered every night. The pool requires topping off twice a week. Who could have possibly expected we would have a water problem? Why didn't borough staff see this coming? This is a problem of our own creation.

Numerous reports of losses of American jobs to low wage foreign competition have left our politicians in Washington deaf. Neither of our senators, Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez, seems to hear us. Perhaps now that the following statistics are available, something might happen. When first elected, we had hoped that with his business background, Corzine might have been a welcome leader who could pull New Jersey up by its boot straps. That did not happen. Considering the state budget mess, his approval rating of 38 percent is higher than expected. He panders to the millions of voters in the northern part of the state. Here in south Jersey, his approvals are probably much lower because he does little for us except levy our taxes. It is an opportunity wasted. Sad, because it could have been so much better.

Cape May Council plans to issue parking stickers to its residents for a $350 annual fee. Once again council shows its disrespect for its residents. It justifies the exorbitant fee because of fears of lost parking revenues, largely from visitors. Council should check out Philadelphia ($35) and Baltimore's ($3 parking sticker program. A more balanced approach would change parking meter fees to 25 cents for 12 minutes and substantially reduce the proposed fee. Few visitors would notice, city revenues would increase and property owners' need satisfied.

Absolutely unbelievable, the nosy residents on the 100 block of Roslyn Avenue. My fiancé and I are recent additions to the neighborhood. We've been renovating our house for a few months now, therefore we have trash. Every week we put it out for pickup. Apparently we put it out too early this week and offended some of our delicate neighbors. Why call Code Enforcement instead of talking to us first? We didn't know of the 7 p.m. rule. We just got home from our yearly vacation in Wildwood, and we had the best one yet! The kids loved the boardwalk and the rides, and the beaches were clean and perfect. Believe me I will be the loudest one cheering when Bush leaves office this January, however the one thing he can not truly be blamed with is oil prices. Yes there are somethings he could have done to reduce it a small percentage, but overall it wouldn't have made a very large impact. Oil prices are regulated by OPEC an organization of countries that produce petroleum. In this department there is not much Bush, Congress or any other President can do about making a large cut in the pirces at the pump.

If Avalon and Stone Harbor are serious about water conservation, it is time to ban all in-ground swimming pools. Not only do the pools waste thousands of gallons of water, they limit absorption of rain water into the ground. No house is more than a quarter mile from the beautifully maintained beach and the cool ocean water. A pool is just an ostentatious unnecessary status symbol that is a detriment to the community and the environment.

Word of advice: do not eat at the Doo Wop Diner on the boardwalk in Wildwood. I went in last week with my family and witnessed the owner screaming at and verbally harassing a young employee. Running a business can be stressful and cause someone to lose his temper, but this was a ridiculous. I wouldn't be suprised if you could hear him down the boardwalk. The young man was our waiter and was very nice and provided us with excellent service. He did not deserve to be attacked the way he was, and the owner does not deserve our money.

Thurs I took 4 children to the Mulligan Fields. On the playground, were 8 teenagers over 14. They were on the sliding board and sitting at the tops of the ladders - completely covering the equipment. They did not move for my kids who wanted to play. We left the playground, as the teenagers weren’t moving, and I wasn’t going to confront them. If these teenagers were playing on the fields or riding their bikes, there wouldn't have been a problem. The Lower Police should monitor loitering on the equipment at the Fields. It's not fair to the children who want play on the playground.

Comment:
Why does Wildwood use two bathroom attendants, male and female, for their three Boardwalk bathrooms during the day? North Wildwood uses just one, a female attendant, for their 25 Street Boardwalk bathroom. She closes the men's room for 5 to 10 minutes periodically during the day to clean and restock. All Boardwalk bathrooms have both female and male attendants during the night. Why can't Wildwood adopt the North Wildwood policy? This has two benefits, it saves Wildwood taxpayers over $10,000 annually and provides a uniform Boardwalk bathroom staffing policy.
