No One Should Have to Stand in Line for 10 Hours to Vote
NYT — Consider the experience of students at Kenyon College in Ohio in the 2004 election. Officials in Knox County, Ohio, provided just two voting machines for the school’s 1,300 voters. Some students waited in line for 10 hours, and the last bleary-eyed voter did not cast a ballot until nearly 4 a.m.
In Columbus, voters in urban (black) neighborhoods waited as long as four hours, often in the rain. Many voters there and in other urban areas — including Toledo and Youngstown — left their overcrowded polling places in disgust, or because they could not wait any longer, without casting a ballot. In many of Ohio’s (white-majority) suburbs, the lines were far shorter.
Ohio was hardly alone. There were complaints of long lines in other states, including Colorado, Michigan and Florida, where elderly voters endured waits in blistering heat.
In Columbus, as many as 15,000 people left the polls without voting, many because of long lines. At a postelection hearing, a Youngstown pastor estimated that 8,000 black voters there did not cast ballots because of a machine shortage.
Bush won Ohio by 120,000 votes. Ohio put Bush over the top, to win the White House. Ken Blackwell, the Chief Elections Official of the State of Ohio, was also honorary co-chair of the "Committee to re-elect George W. Bush."

The argument against Republican Governor Scott Walker's unconstitutional voter ID law was just that simple: It violates the provision in the Wisconsin constitution that determines who can vote. The government may not disqualify a voter on the grounds that the voter does not satisfy additional statutorily-created qualifications not contained in Article III of the constitution.

Republican War on Voting Targets Swing States
Rolling Stone (March 9) — Since the 2010 election, Republicans have waged an unprecedented war on voting, with the unspoken but unmistakable goal of preventing millions of mostly Democratic voters, including students, minorities, immigrants, and the elderly, from casting ballots in 2012.
More than a dozen states, from Texas to Wisconsin and Florida, have passed laws designed to impede voters at every step of the electoral process, from restricting voter registration drives, to curtailing early voting.
Within days, the crucial battlegrounds of Pennsylvania and Virginia will become the latest Republican states to pass legislation erecting new barriers to voting.

While I agree that no one should have to stand in line for 10 hours, perhaps the solution is requiring X number of machines for every Y number of eligible voters. Election days are in place so that votes and campaigns can be managed effectively. 2 booths for 1300 people isn't effective so make towns buy, rent or lease more machines instead of hiring more people to work longer by extending the number of ways and the length of time that the election process takes to complete. _________________ "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. I was expecting a case where voter fraud was caught, Not a case where a person attempts it and gets away with it. There is little to no voter fraud FACT. If it wasn't true the Republicans would be reminding us of the cases. There just aren't. Sooo if there is not a problem, what are they fixing? a potential of fraud? This is obviously voter supression. If you don't drive you are likely to not have ID If you are poor you are more likely to not drive, If you are poor , you are more likely to be registered Democrat.
Democrat Voter suppresion. Why else are Democrats fighting it? |

Conservative and Liberal leaders are selling the American standard to the highest bidder. The majority of the middle class are becoming poor. Median Income family of 4 50000. Housing, transportation, food and Healthcare pretty much eats that up.lose a job you are poor 1 paycheck away. yet we argue over what political party gets to pull the trigger. Revolution may not be that far away. |

Class warfare pretty much frames who is in the proper side. Job creators vs. the middle class. Welfare for the wealthy (to create jobs lol) or assistance for unemployed and underwater homeowners. the talking points are clear.

| Ramjet if your philosophy of the economic class of who each poltiical party represents, then how do you explain Cape May County ( the 4th poorest county in the state) being run by the Republican Party? |

| The Republican party consists of extremely wealthy, extremely religious ,extremely racist, and extremely selfish. Cape May county is littered with the 2nd and 3rd. You are right that the County should be Democratic, but I hate to say i,t but I will also include extremely stupid. Extremely poorly educated . Just check the rankings of the Schools. |

| I'll add my two cents, that Republicans nationally tend to be more cuckoo than Jersey's homebred. Those of you who pledge allegiance to the Republican party label ought yourselves to be in an uproar about the direction the party has taken. Please start your revolution within the Republican party, they are damaging America. |

| As stated before I'm registered Democrat but view myself as very moderate. The Republicans are promoting hate daily. I can not understand how anyone would associate with them . The Democrats are better verbally yet accomplish very little to stop the class warfare that is/has destroyed the middle class. |

Lest We Forget:

News of the arrests followed The Daily Caller’s interview with former Alabama Democratic Rep. Artur Davis, in which he said voter identification laws are needed to counter ballot fraud in local elections. |
