Because they know we are weak and play by the rules. Until we play by the opponents rules(pirates, terrorists etc) they wont fear us.

Obama was advised early this morning that the military had taken action and that the 4 Americans had been killed. One pirate was dead, due to stab wounds, and 13 were captured. That allows me to believe that Obama had issued a "do not kill" order to the military regarding the pirates. More blood on his hands..........

But Fred, we don't want to be "feared"....we want to be "liked" and that will solve all our problems! (cue the unicorns, rainbows and pixie dust)
We SHOULD have taken them alive......then put them on their boat and towed it to a Somali port, then set the boat on fire, shelled the port until it was obliterated and then sunk everything that floats on the water there.
What are we going to do? Send them to prison? (after a civil trial, of course.) They will think prison is the best thing ever to happen to them and live high on the hog by their standards.

We all know that we are liked. After all, our Commander in Chief bows down to other world leaders, he practices double standards when dealing with international situations, and when all else fails, he will break out a 6 pack and offer up a beer. No guts, no glory......that about sums it all up.

They can have Somalia. We will even lend them the bombs.

Seriously, we had a no-fly zone in Iraq. We should be able to do something similar around the horn of Africa. A three mile wide zone with a zero tolerance policy for those that breach it comes to mind. They are free to fish in the rest of the ocean.

Seems odd doesn't it? It seems it's more convenient to make American hostages expendable than it is make pirates expendable.

Seems like more huffing and puffing by unpatriotic Republicans pretending Democrats are weak. Half you guys are in on it. The only half are suckers.

Apparently you missed or ignored the fact there are four DEAD Americans.

These Americans are neither huffing nor puffing.

The most important perception is that the Somali pirates see America as weak.

A foreign policy consisting of apologies only re-enforces this perception.

BTW - How's the Kool-Aid?

Someone's drinking the Kool-Aid.

The Obama "apology tour" as foreign policy was entirely a fabrication of conservative media based on distortions of Obama's remarks.

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- Over the weekend President Barack Obama authorized the use of force against Somali pirates. This is at least the second hostage situation Obama has dealt with since being president. In April 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL snipers killed three pirates to end a five-day hostage standoff involving an American-flagged cargo ship.

TAKE NO PRISONERS Think about it, firing a grenade upon a US warship, and they take prisoners. There is only one way to write history, so it doesn't repeat itself!

President George W. Bush specifically apologized to King Abdullah of Jordan for the abuse of prisoners at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.

The 2004 apology took place privately, but Bush and Abdullah spoke soon after at a Rose Garden press conference.

"We also talked about what has been on the TV screens recently, not only in our own country, but overseas -- the images of cruelty and humiliation. I told His Majesty as plainly as I could that the wrongdoers will be brought to justice, and that the actions of those folks in Iraq do not represent the values of the United States of America," Bush said. "I told him I was sorry for the humiliation suffered by the Iraqi prisoners, and the humiliation suffered by their families. I told him I was equally sorry that people who have been seeing those pictures didn't understand the true nature and heart of America."

What a tragic end to a round the world sailing experience passing out bibles. Not everyone shares the voice of Christianity. The area they were sailing has been known as dangerous waters. Pirates have no fear of death. What good did the war ship do following these pirates and the families onboard the sail boat? NOTHING. I guess the stakes were not high enough for the US to fire on the Somali pirates like they did with the Maersk Alabama. Afterall, it was a private sailing yacht with no million dollar ransom value like a tanker full of oil. Very sad indeed for those families of the Americans slain. Sad
