MOSCOW — RECENT events surrounding Syria have prompted me to speak directly to the American people and their political leaders. It is important to do so at a time of insufficient communication between our societies.

Relations between us have passed through different stages. We stood against each other during the cold war. But we were also allies once, and defeated the Nazis together. The universal international organization — the United Nations — was then established to prevent such devastation from ever happening again.

The United Nations’ founders understood that decisions affecting war and peace should happen only by consensus, and with America’s consent the veto by Security Council permanent members was enshrined in the United Nations Charter. The profound wisdom of this has underpinned the stability of international relations for decades.

No one wants the United Nations to suffer the fate of the League of Nations, which collapsed because it lacked real leverage. This is possible if influential countries bypass the United Nations and take military action without Security Council authorization.

No one doubts that poison gas was used in Syria. But there is every reason to believe it was used not by the Syrian Army, but by opposition forces, to provoke intervention by their powerful foreign patrons, who would be siding with the fundamentalists. Reports that militants are preparing another attack — this time against Israel — cannot be ignored.

Tea Bag presents this without comment so I assume its a statement of support. Indeed there is much wisdom in the communique. But the above presents questions. How did the rebels get hold of the chemical weapons and what proof is there of a plan to use them against Israel. I take this to be a move to support Assad as knowing how protective the US is of Israel to a fault it might be expected that the support of the rebels would be terminated. but that doesn't seem to be the case as it is reported today that the CIA is delivering weapons to the rebels. Is this a feint by Putin? Or is his intelligence better than ours.

Ha...you fell into Putin's trap. He is protecting his client state Syria Obviously if the US did bomb syria after Putin had hinted at retaliation, and then did nothing he would be humiliated. Now as a matter of geopolitical gamesmanship we MUST bomb them as to check mate. Russia. Doubtless this is what Herr Doktor Kissinger is telling Kerry.

There seems to be a trend by right wing posters that are increasingly turning to Russian sources for their information. Several site "The Russian Times" and now...Tea Bag is quoting Russian President Vladimir Putin. Is this just blatant un-Americanism...or Is this just desperation? Will these people use any questionable source such as one of our adversaries to discredit The President of the US? Can you imagine the conservative reaction if liberals were going to the Russians for their points of view? Unbelievable. Just when you think one of these guys can't sink any lower. Well, anyway...welcome to the forum...Comrade Tea-bag. Next, they'll be quoting Muslim Extremists.

This kind of party politic bull S is not good for this country. This kind of behavior is such a waste and only harms our country.

Which is...apparently...you..and your Russian friends. People like you actually root for a democratic President to fail. You will go to great lengths to fabricate, including citing the Russians. That's what harms our country.

What hurts this country is people like you, that say there is no God. People that will tolerate the people that commit the abominations, that are taught in the Bible. That is what hurts this country. Wake up already. You sicken me with all of your BS. This info that Tea posted should be the main coverage of our media news source, very station should be covering this. The news should not be covering the showbiz BS. We are at war with the Devil followers. This is our main focus. This president is not focusing on the main problem. He is aiding the Devil’s followers. Shame on him and all of the people that should be advising him correctly. We need to remove those Devil doers in that country. How is this president really going to pretend that Syria’s president should do away with his weapons ,when we ,this country has the same or even worst weapons. Think of that before you post your BS. sharky. You and kool aid sicken me and many others in this forum. Stop your BS already.

Oh shut up with your constant God :: bologna ::. You sickened me a long time ago with your preaching and your disgusting and creepy comments to others on this forum. I only responded to you because, like others, I found you comical. You are at war with the voices in your head. If you had any reading comprehension you would have known that I was against attacking Syria.

Did you read his letter?
Why did he write it?
What does he want you to think?
How do you assess him?
What does he think of our leadership by submitting this letter?
Should the NYT publish his letter?
Is he brining the "battle" to our own shores?
Do we have leadership capable of out thinking him?
Is he laughing at us? Our leadership?

Just to start you in a thoughtful direction.....

He is making a political move...you are helping him by using him as a source. I don't trust his word. He want's us to think that he is the voice of reason and that Obama is the voice of aggression. Yes, the NY Times should have published the letter if they felt it was news worthy. No, he is NOT bringing the battle to our shores. That's right wing paranoia. Yes, we have leadership that is capable of out thinking him. We have since Bush left office.

No..he's not laughing at anyone. He is protecting an ally and his own interests...and is going for public opinion. After the disastrous Bush years...this will be easier for him to do.

I don't need your half A'd comment to be thoughtful. I think for myself and what is truly best for our country, while you play party politics.
