|
|
| The old saying is that politics causes strange bed fellows. Word on the street has it that the thrown out former County Republican Chairman David Von Savage and Democrat State Senator Jeff Van Drew have taken their previously secret unholy alliance public finally. In addition to numerous confirmed sitings of Van Drew at Von Savage’s Congress Hall hotel and other Cape Resorts Group properties, it is all over Lower Township that Von Savage and Van Drew teamed up to get the so-called Independent Mike Beck re-elected Mayor. They say Beck became very desperate when Eric Simonsen decided to run against him and reached out to Von Savage to help. Von Savage’s help always comes with stings attached. In exchange for Von Savage helping Beck he had to run with Von Savage’s close friend Norris Clark. Beck took the deal. It was all arranged by none other than Jack Sparks himself. By the way, word on the street is also that Sparks and Bob Matthews and Colleen McCabe have had a big falling out over who gets to run Lower Township now that they got Beck and Clark elected. Sparks says he won, but Matthews and McCabe are now out to get there old friend Jack. But this digresses, back to Von Savage and Van Drew. Von Savage went out and got his old friend Tony Monzo to help raise money even though his partner is the judge in Lower (more on that on another day) and Von Savage hired Beck a big time political consultant out of Harrisburg PA. According to some people close to Clark and Beck the political consultant told them to get Van Drew onboard. Others say Van Drew was involved from the start and helped to keep any Democrats from running in Lower. Either way, Von Savage brokered the deal and Van Drew did a photo shoot with Beck and let Beck use his name and picture in the campaign. But Van Drew always has strings attached too. Beck had to have Van Drew swear him in and had to endorse Van Drew at the swearing in. Sadly, the so-called Independent Beck sold his soul to Von Savage and Van Drew, Instead of being sworn in by a judge or the clerk who would have shown his independents, Beck had to use the highest ranking Democrat to start his term. Overheard at Starbucks was the new Von Savage and Van Drew plan to take out Ernie Troiano in Wildwood and put Gary Demartzo back in. Always plugged into the grape vine. |

Actually the word on the street is the Republican party is having "buyers remorse" over ousting Von Savage and many in the party would like him to come back as Chairman. Seems like many in the Republican party are concerned that the party is more interested in what's in it for a few, rather than the good of the towns and county overall. The same "buyer's remorse" just happened in Cumberland County where the voters were disgusted with the Republican Freeholder majority they voted in a year ago and now voted in a Democrat Freeholder majority. It doesn't look good for this Republican regime.
It's a shame Freeholder Len Desiderio backed out at the last minute on his committment to swear Deputy Mayor Norris Clark into office. It would have been nice to show how the winning Independent team is able to work with both Democrats and Republicans in a bi-partisan way, like Governor Christie and Senator Van Drew. At least Democratic Senator Van Drew showed some class and kept his promise to swear in the Mayor. |

| Senator Van Drew has a history of working accross party lines to get things done.I applaud his swearing in of Mayor Beck and his willingness to think "outside the box" to get results for the taxpayer's of Cape May County. |

Not sure what street you get your "word" from, but he is wrong. |

| VonSausage and Chuckie have always been political bedfellows - everyone knew that. VonSausage laid down and cut multiple deals with Chuckie consistently - County Prosecutor for one. DVS was all about self promotion and preservation just like Chuckie. |
