Family Displaced, House Demo’ed After Christmas Eve Blaze

By Herald Staff

SEA ISLE CITY – A home that caught fire this morning has already been demolished. Only remnants of the three-story structure remained before the sun set this afternoon.
Police said fire was ripping through the house at 9113 Landis Ave. the morning of Dec. 24 shortly before 10 a.m. When a 911 call came in at 10:02 a.m., first responders found the southeast corner of the home fully engulfed in flames.
From there, the fire spread quickly to the south side of the house, according to police. The Sea Isle Fire Department was able to limit neighboring structures to just minor heat damage but 9113 Landis sustained such extensive damage it was immediately declared a total loss. Firefighters said after the flames were extinguished, the charred structure that was left was declared unsafe. A tear-down was slated.
No injuries were reported.
Police released the victims’ names as John and Marie Peltier, but it was not immediately clear if the Peltiers were just the homeowners of the property or also the family that was displaced by the fire.
The Fire Marshal’s Office and the county Prosecutor’s Office assisted in the investigation along with Avalon and Stone Harbor fire departments. The Ocean View Fire Department provided coverage while Sea Isle contained the blaze.
The cause is still under investigation but did not appear to be suspicious, officials said.
