County MUA Changes Transfer Station Hours

COURT HOUSE — On Dec. 1, a public hearing was held by the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority (CMCMUA) to receive comments on the proposed User Fees, Terms and Conditions for use of its solid waste facilities during 2011.
The authority proposes to raise the tipping fee for household trash by 1.9 percent while holding the tipping fee for construction and demolition materials at current rates. Two commercial waste haulers attended the hearing to request reconsideration of the proposed closing of the Transfer Station one-half hour earlier on Saturdays during the busy summer months.
In response to this request and other comments received regarding operating hours, the authority’s board decided to accommodate the haulers’ request and amend the proposed 2011 Terms and Conditions to restore the extra half hour of operations at the Transfer Station on Saturdays during July and August and also during the busy Memorial Day and Labor Day holiday weekends.
In response to another comment regarding long lines at the Transfer Station’s scale on Saturday mornings during the summer months, the CMCMUA board members agreed that in an effort to keep waiting times to a minimum, operating procedures will be modified to designate one of the two scales at this facility for “commercial use only” during such periods of high congestion. Cars and pick-up trucks would be directed to the other scale.
The CMCMUA’s chairman stated that the Authority appreciated receiving comments from its customers and noted that every effort will be made to address the comments received.
The CMCMUA Board is scheduled to adopt the final 2011 Terms & Conditions at its next regular meeting to be held on Dec. 15.
