Doesn't middle township already have cameras installed on some of the intersections? Pretty sure they are also at the parkway lights. Maybe the camaras are different? Ours just take pictures and not film?

Some cities in other states are pulling the cameras because of court battles.

I think that most of the cameras you are seeing are actually traffic sensors, to trip the timing sequence of the computer, which changes the lights.
these "new" cameras are to catch violators, the fine money to pray for the cameras. I personally don't care for the concept, if not administered be law enforcement. Just another way for private enterprise to have a foot in the door, while being invited to dinner. It always sounds good in the pre plan, but sooner or later it becomes taxpayer funded and an accepted norm.

Red light cameras are all about money, not safety. Research has shown that simply extending the YELLOW light a second or two longer will eliminate up to 90% of all red light violations! Towns across America are abandoning the idea as all the cameras really did was suck money from private citizens and hurt the local economy, while making the state a little cash and the owner of the equipment MILLIONS. It's a really bad idea and needs to be stopped in its tracks. JUST SAY NO TO RED LIGHT CAMERAS and yes to more money circulating in the local economy. Why fight to lower taxes a few dollars only to FINE much more money from local citizens do to red light violations? If this was about safety, that's one thing, but they haven't tried the YELLOW light extension plan first. THAT WORKS and keeps the economy moving. RETHINK IT MIDDLE BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.

Hey everybody , PUBLIUS is back . After she got spanked last week ( and almost got her friend fired ) I thought she would lick her wounds and lay low for a while .

However , what she is saying here is what I have been trying to tell our esteemed mayor for a year . Since the mayor never bothered to return my messages , maybe the new republican majority will squash this red light camera plan in its tracks . Aside from being an economic drain on the public , it has been shown that there is a marked increase in rear end collisions where these cameras have been installed . Nearly half of the communities who had them installed , later canceled their contracts .

PUBLIUS , now is the time to use the influence of your clan to stop this project .

I believe in one court case, the tickets got thrown out because an officer did not sign them. Wonder if that would work on automated toll tickets? Laughing

I think the difference between the two is one is a traffic violation and the other (the tolls) may be looked at as failure to make a payment or some other 'financial' infraction not unlike failing to pay your taxes on time, you get hit with a penalty.

In most jurisdictions now , the red light infraction is treated much like a parking ticket . The owner of the car gets the ticket no matter who was driving . The early attempts at enforcement were challenged insofar as the identity of the driver could be questioned because the law wasn't written properly .
However , there have been some successful appeals . Sometimes it could be proven that the amber signal wasn't of sufficient length . Right turn on red also produced many false tickets .
The company chosen for the potential installation of these devices in Middle Township is American Traffic Solutions . This company was cited , in Glassboro , N.J. for decreasing the length of time the amber signal was displayed from the mandated 4 seconds to 3 seconds . It was never about increased safety but about increased revenue .

Shame on us if we allow this company to do business here .
