Mother Nature Smiles, Sun Shines on County’s Earth Day

By Al Campbell

SWAINTON — Mother Nature overruled the weather man on Saturday, April 17, and allowed Cape May County’s celebration of Earth Day to take place under sunny skies, and breezy conditions.
The day began early when a bevy of ardent runners took part in the Earth Day 5K Run around the Cape May County Park, where blossoms were buffeted by the strong wind.
Later in the day, an array of local organizations linked in some way to the earth, had volunteers talking to onlookers about their groups. Many had activities for children including making and painting bird houses, planting seeds and learning about animals and water conservation.
Throughout the day, groups performs and food vendors sold a wide selection of goodies that were enjoyed at picnic tables under the sun.
