Will Clunkers Wind Up South Of the Border?

To The Editor:
Regarding the Fed’s “Cash for Clunkers” program or folly, if you will pardon my pun, when it “backfires,” as most federal brainstorms do. The clunkers are to be sent to North Jersey for scrapping, North Jersey where political corruption reigns.
Imagine this scenario, a gas-guzzler is about to be crushed by George, the car crusher operator. George spies this “cream puff” S.U.V. George thinks, “Oh my wife would love this car.” So he finagles with the paperwork and the clunker is back on our roadways, betcha!
One more possible scenario, more hanky-panky paperwork. So there is no doubt in my mind that a good percentage of these clunkers will wind up south of the border to pollute some third world country. Betcha!
