By Herald Staff

OCEAN CITY — On July 2 at approximately 1:51 p.m., the Ocean City Police responded to a disturbance at the Rite-Aid Store in the 1300 block of West Avenue.
Employees of the store reported that Frank E. MacLaine, 64, Maple Shade, was attempting to shoplift items from the store when confronted by a staff member. During the confrontation, MacLaine used physical force to flee from the employee, police said. As he left the store the employees were able to obtain a license plate and a physical description of the fleeing vehicle. With the use of store surveillance video, investigators were able to confirm the reported incident by the employees and positively identify MacLaine.
An arrest warrant was issued by Jude Richard Russell in the amount of $100,000 full cash bail.
MacLaine was arrested on July 11 by Maple Shade police on the outstanding warrant. MacLaine was charged with robbery, aggravated assault and hindering apprehension. He was transported to the Cape May County jail.
The investigation was conducted by Patrolman Brendan Gheen and Detective Mark Pancoast.
