County Animal Shelter Blanketed with Blankets

By Herald Staff

CREST HAVEN — Last month, a plea for blankets was extended by the Cape May County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center and the public’s response was immediate and overwhelming.
“We’re gratified beyond words,” said Sheriff Gary Schaffer in a Feb. 20 release. “During this recent spell of bitter cold weather each of our animals had a warm blanket in their kennel. People have been coming in daily with blankets of every size and color, and there seems to be no end to their generosity. We are contacting other animal agencies throughout the county to share some of the bounty we’ve received.”
Also, the shelter has received donations of food, litter pans, treats, and other items for the animals. Additionally, several schools and agencies in Cape May County have dropped off multiple bags of blankets and other items, and individuals have come with their car trunks filled with donations.
“We are deeply touched by the outpouring of good will that these donations represent,” added Schaffer. “However, at this time, our storage areas are overflowing so we don’t need any more blankets. We’d like to ask people to consider other ways to show their support for the Shelter. If anyone would like to adopt a pet, we have many animals waiting for loving homes and we’re always looking for volunteers to help at the Shelter.”
The Shelter, located at 110 Shelter Road, Garden State Parkway exit 11, is open every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. except on holidays. For information call 609-465-8923.
