Kick Off the Summer Season with July Events in the Wildwoods

WILDWOOD – The Wildwoods’ summer season has officially started, and with it comes warm weather, fun-filled days and nights on the Wildwoods’ beaches and world-famous boardwalk, and a full calendar of events throughout the month of July – packed with fun for everyone.
The event-filled July schedule starts off with a bang during Fourth of July Weekend with the Wildwood Crest Fourth of July Freedom Festival Saturday, July 2 through Monday, July 4 featuring crafters, food, children’s activities and live entertainment including the B Street Band, 2U and Bandstand. The festival will be held from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Gazebo in Wildwood Crest, located at Rambler Road and Ocean Avenue. Live entertainment will take place from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at Centennial Park, located at Fern Road and Ocean Avenue.
On Independence Day, Monday, July 4, the Wildwoods hosts its annual Independence Day Parade at 9 a.m. in North Wildwood – featuring kids and families dressed in their best red, white and blue outfits. Later that day, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band, Changes in Latitudes, will perform their ‘Adjust Your Attitude’ free concert starting at 6 p.m. at Fox Park, located directly across from the Wildwoods Convention Center. After the concert, head to the Wildwoods Boardwalk for a special Fourth of July Fireworks Spectacular – a fireworks and laser light extravaganza originating from the beach at Pine Avenue. The weekend will also include a Sports Card, Toys, Comic and Collectibles Show taking place inside the Wildwoods Convention Center Friday through Monday, July 1 to July 4; and a Boardwalk Craft Show on Saturday and Sunday. Also on July 4, it’s the Beach ‘n Boardwalk 5K Run and 1-Mile Family Walk starting at the WILDWOODS Sign at Rio Grande Avenue and the Boardwalk at 9 a.m. For more information on registration visit www.WildwoodsWall.com/5k.
The weekend after Independence Day, the Wildwoods will host one of its most anticipated events of the year – the New Jersey State Barbeque Championship and Anglesea Blues Festival, Friday, July 8 through Sunday, July 10. Taking place along Olde New Jersey Avenue in North Wildwood, the festival will feature mouthwatering barbeque, live blues music and FREE family fun. Hours for the event are 4 p.m.-11 p.m. on Friday; 10 a.m.-11p.m. on Saturday; and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sunday. The third weekend of July features five sporting events to enjoy as either a spectator or a participant. On Friday, July 15, the Wildwoods host the Beschen-Callahan Memorial Lifeguard Races at 6 p.m. On Saturday, July 16, the five-mile island hosts its annual Duke of Fluke Fishing Tournament – South Jersey’s largest fluke tournament, and Boogie Board Races at 15th Avenue and the beach in North Wildwood. Also taking place Saturday and Sunday is the Morey’s Piers’ Beach Lacrosse Tournament and Cape Express “MORE” Beach Blast Soccer Tournament – two barefoot sporting events offering players of all ages a chance to compete for fun and prizes on the Wildwoods award-winning beaches.
For a more laid back, non-sporting event, visitors can enjoy the 2nd Annual Maritime Festival at Hereford Inlet Lighthouse on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17, which will include historical displays from assorted maritime and lighthouse museums from around the country, crafters and vendors selling nautical themed merchandise, activities for children, lighthouse and garden tours, food vendors, and musical guests. Festival hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday.
The WWE Raw World Tour returns to the Wildwoods Convention Center Saturday, July 23 with a hard-hitting, action-packed evening of pro wrestling featuring top superstars like John Cena, Rey Mysterio, R. Truth, The Miz, Big Show and more inside the Oceanfront Arena. Tickets are on sale now starting at just $15 per person at all Ticketmaster outlets and at Ticketmaster.com.
Also taking place on July 23 is one of the Wildwoods’ newest events – the New Jersey State Crabfest. The event will feature ‘Crabby” fun for all ages including entertainment, vendors and crabs cooked to order from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. at the Ice House Restaurant, located at 4415 Park Boulevard in Wildwood.
The month of July ends with a little something for everyone. Visitors can enjoy Christmas in July in the Wildwoods as Santa rides the beach on Saturday, July 30. Saturday and Sunday, July 30 and 31, will also feature the Wildwoods annual Co-Ed Beach Ultimate Frisbee Tournament – a 4-on-4 team competition for players of all levels; King of the Court Soccer Tennis Tournament – a 2 vs. 2 soccer tournament that takes place on a tennis court for cash prizes; and the Handcraft Unlimited Christmas in July Craft Show – an event perfect for all ages with quality crafters featuring country, modern, primitive, folk art and more available for purchase.
