Cape May’s Kids Day at the Emlen Physick Estate July 6

By Press Release

CAPE MAY – Step back in time, have tea with your teddy bear, enjoy a hands-on experience with area sea life and much more as fun, entertaining and educational activities transform the grounds of the Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., on Kids Day, sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC). On Wednesday, July 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Physick Estate becomes a place of discovery for children of all ages.
How did Victorians live without electricity? Did you know crayons are more than 100 years old or that games like charades and pin the tail on the donkey were popular during the Victorian Era? Learn what life was like more than a century ago from the parlor to the playroom on self-guided, kid-friendly tours of the Estate from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit the bubble pool and create bubbles with giant wands, play with Victorian-era toys and stop by Aunt Emilie’s Drawers to dress up in vintage hats, shoes, dresses and suits. Ride a giant Victorian bicycle, explore the displays at the Cape May County Zoo’s table, touch living sea creatures at the tank hosted by the Wetlands Institute, learn about the area’s ecosystem with the Nature Center of Cape May, get “green” with the MUA, and discover a world of insects that are millions of years old at the Cape May County Mosquito Commission’s display. Visitors will be able to cool off with free water ice samples offered by Rita’s. Food and refreshments will also be available for purchase.
Also on Kids Day, the Carriage House Tearoom & Café located on the grounds of the Estate will be hosting Teddy Bear Tea Parties for children and their families. Bring your favorite bear (or dolly) to the tearoom and enjoy kid-friendly menus, teddy bear music, and bear-themed stories and activities. Teddy Bear Tea Parties are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6. Admission is $18 for adults and $10 for children (ages 3-12). Teddy bears and dolls eat free. For more information or to make reservations, call (609) 884-5404 or (800) 275-4278 or visit www.capemaymac.org.
Admission to Kids Day is $7 for children (ages 3 to 12) and free for adults. There is a separate admission of $7 for adults taking the kid-friendly tour of the Physick Estate.
