Wildwood Police Arrest Four for Drug Possession

COURT HOUSE — Cape May County Prosecutor Robert L. Taylor and Wildwood Police Chief Steven Long announce the June 1st arrest of four Wildwood residents on drug related charges.
On June 1, 2011, the Cape May County Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force, the Wildwood Police Department, the Cape May County Regional SWAT Team and the Cape May County Sheriffs Department K-9 Unit executed a search warrant at an apartment located in the 100 West block of Poplar Avenue.
As a result, over five ounces of suspected cocaine was seized along with drug paraphernalia and a small amount of suspected marijuana.
Ira Smith, 27, of the 100 West block of Poplar Avenue, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in an amount over five ounces, a crime of the first degree: Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance with intent to Distribute, a crime of the first degree; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance within 1000 feet of School Property, a crime of the third degree and Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance within 500 feet of a Designated Public Place, a crime of the second degree.
Smith was committed to the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of $250,000 cash bail. The approximate street value of the narcotics seized is $6,000.
Also charged as a result of this investigation were James Malloy, 30, also of the 100 West block of Poplar Avenue, who was charged with Possession of a Controlled
Dangerous Substance, a crime of the third degree; Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance within 1000 feet of School Property and Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance within 600 feet of a Designated Public Place. Malloy was committed to the Cape May County Correctional Center in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.
In addition Rebecca Abu, 22, and a juvenile male, both of whom reside in the 100 West block of Poplar Avenue were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (Marijuana) in an amount under 50 grams, a disorderly persons offense. Abu was released on a summons and the juvenile was released to the legal guardian.
Taylor advises that persons convicted of first degree crimes are subject to a term of incarceration of between ten and twenty years in New Jersey State Prison, persons convicted of second degree crimes are subject to a term of incarceration of between five and ten years in New Jersey State Prison and persons convicted of third degree crimes are subject to a term of incarceration of between three and five years in New Jersey State Prison.
Prosecutor Taylor and Chief Long commend the efforts of all of the law enforcement agencies involved in bringing this investigation to a successful conclusion.
