MidAtlantic MedEvac Opens Woodbine Municipal Airport Location

By Press Release

WOODBINE — Mayor William Pikolycky is pleased to announce that MidAtlantic has established a new base of operations at the Woodbine Municipal Airport, which is centrally located in the heart of the Cape May County.
This MidAtlantic MedEvac helicopter, designated MedEvac 4, provides more rapid availability of helicopter air medical transportation to Cape May County’s Emergency Medical Services system. It is currently operational 12 hours per day seven days per week at the Woodbine location.
The MidAtlantic MedEvac flight team consists of a pilot, a flight nurse, and a flight paramedic, each specially trained and equipped to transport and care for patients with a wide range of serious illnesses or injuries. The primary purpose for using a helicopter for medical transport to a specialized medical facility is to save time while maintaining appropriate, often life-saving care, for patients. Special communications and computer technology combined with an ongoing preparedness enables teams to respond quickly to urgent medical transport situations while maintaining a safe operating environment.
Being located in Cape May County significantly reduces the wait time for patients from this area requiring air medical transport. MidAtlantic MedEvac is affiliated with Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA., and AtlantiCare in Atlantic City.
Air medical flight operations from southeastern Pennsylvania began in April 1987, the first in the Delaware Valley. Flight operations based in New Jersey began in June 2005. MidAtlantic MedEvac was the first commercial helicopter air medical service to operate from within New Jersey. Currently operating Eurocopter helicopters, services include operations flown directly from the scene of injury as well as emergency inter-hospital transports. The MidAtlantic MedEvac service area includes all of New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, southeastern New York, Delaware, and northeastern Maryland.
“Given the current County preparedness awareness in this hurricane season, Woodbine was been acknowledged as a high, safe point within the county,” noted Mayor Pikolycky. “Our municipal airport continues to be a major component in Woodbine’s long-term economic development, for both the airport itself and the Airport Business Park.”
