16th Annual David C. Douglass, Sr. Golf Tournament & Scholarship Fund Raiser

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – This event is in memory of Officer Douglass, killed in the line of duty while protecting our community Feb., 18, 1994. Please let me take just a moment to tell you about Officer Douglass. He had been employed with the Lower Township Police Department, was a volunteer firefighter, a member of the S.W.A.T. Team, worked with the K-9 Units, was a firearms instructor and active in many of our local organizations. David was a remarkable man who thought nothing of taking the time to help his friends, neighbors and local children with anything that they needed.
David was dispatched to a call of smoke in our local area of North Cape May on the evening of Feb. 18, 1994. Upon arriving at the scene, he witnessed a man running from the property. He was pursuing the subject on foot, when sadly David was fired upon by the subject. David died that evening brutally and senselessly leaving behind his wife, Debbie and three children, David Jr., Cortney and Tina. We shall never forget David or the sacrifice he made for our safety. Please join us in giving back to the community in Dave’s honor. We are pleased to announce that year to date this program is responsible for over $89,000 in awarded scholarships to local students in the community.
