SEA ISLE CITY – Sea Isle City Police Department has charged two juveniles with third-degree criminal mischief for allegedly damaging fences and destroying property at the “Play By The Bay” playground at Sea Isle’s Dealy Field.
According to a press release issued by Police Chief Anthony Garrreffi, police received a 911 call Memorial Day, May 29, at a little after midnight, reporting a group of juveniles breaking fences and destroying other property at the playground, located at 6108 Central Ave.
The chief said officers quickly responded to the scene, where they came in contact with a group of juveniles attempting to leave the area.
Detectives from the Sea Isle City Police Department determined that two juveniles who were on the scene committed acts of criminal mischief. Both juveniles were charged with N.J.S.A. 2C:17-3 criminal mischief, a crime of the third degree.
The juveniles were processed and released on summons in accordance with New Jersey Juvenile Justice Reform directives. During the prosecution process, the Sea Isle City Police Department will be asking for the most severe penalties on top of financial restitution.
“Sea Isle City’s police will continue a zero-tolerance strategy when it comes to destructive, unruly, disorderly criminal behavior,” Garreffi said. “To assist with this strategy, dozens of high-resolution surveillance cameras have been installed throughout the City of Sea Isle City. In addition to increased surveillance efforts, we are also asking the public for their assistance in reporting such behavior immediately to the police in order to increase the likelihood of apprehension.”
Any resident or visitor who witnesses illegal behavior is asked to dial 911 immediately.
