Pet Owners Charged with Neglect

By Jack Fichter

VILLAS — Mary and Suzanne Neely, of Villas, plead guilty to animal neglect charges for failing to provide veterinary care for their dog in Lower Township Municipal Court April 20, according to Lower Township Animal Control Officer Don Montgomery.
The fine was suspended. The dog, a Shepherd mix was in deplorable condition with hair loss, sores and a tumor, said Montgomery. The dog was euthanized.
During the same court session, James E. Cohen, of Villas, received a $500 fine for failure to provide veterinary care for his dog. Montgomery said the mixed breed dog was very thin with every bone in its body visible from a distance. The dog was euthanized.
Montgomery picked up a dog April 18 that was emaciated. He said he there was such a depression in the dog’s side, his fist fit into it. The dog was taken to the County Animal Shelter.
A fight between a Great Dane and a cat last week resulted in the cat being euthanized after it bit the owner of the dog. The cat’s carcass was sent for rabies testing, said Montgomery.
