TRENTON — Gov. Jon Corzine declared a state of emergency in Cape May and other counties reeling from heavy storm damage.
The executive order signed by Corzine on Sunday, Nov 15, notes the nor’easter, which reached New Jersey on Wednesday, has caused “significant tidal, back bay and coastal flooding conditions affecting the Atlantic coast and tidal Delaware River counties.”
The declaration allows State Police to re-direct traffic flow as needed, to require mandatory evacuations as needed and to call out National Guard troops to assist victims of the storm. It is expected Corzine will also ask President Obama to declare a State of Emergency in the affected counties, making them eligible for Federal disaster grants and loans.
