Peace Corps Volunteer Visits Wildwood

By Herald Staff

There’s a lot more to school than the three R’s. Instilling in students the value of reaching out to others – both in community and throughout the world – is what solid teaching engenders. And that’s what Paula Lucas, a Wildwood High School Spanish teacher, is trying to do.
Lucas’ students are working on career projects and recently welcomed Anne Dice, a former 1980 – 1981 Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic, to their class to learn about Dice’s reasons for helping others abroad. Personal growth, fulfillment, and a sense of accomplishment were among them.
As for the lesson learned by Lucas’ students? Connecting and sharing with others is what creates and maintains an invaluable sense of community in Wildwood and beyond.
