OCEAN CITY — The Ocean City Police Department’s, Community Oriented Policing Unit, awarded its second Community Policing Award to Mikenzie Helphenstine, a school teacher at the Ocean City Intermediate School.
The award was presented to Helphenstine for her efforts in our community and for her work in the school district.
According to a release, Helphenstine moved to the community in 2005 with her husband and two children. Since her arrival, she has made a permanent impact on the community.
She coaches sports, involved with the summer Recreation program, active member of St. Peters Church and volunteers and helps with everything from the Peanut Butter and Jelly Club to the Police Unity Tour.
Because of her tireless efforts and her unavailability after school because of her commitments, Mikenzie makes her lunch hour at school available to the students who might need help with their academics.
