New Roof, No Tax Hike for Sea Isle School

By Joe Hart

SEA ISLE CITY — Residents here will be asked to vote on a tax levy of $3.2 million, which includes no tax rate increase despite having to put a new 30,000 square-foot, $1 million roof on the city’s elementary school at 4501 Park Road.
The school tax rate of 6.7 cents is expected to remain unchanged leaving homeowners here paying $67 for every $100,000 of assessed value.
According to the online budget presentation, with approximately 65 students in the K-8 district last year’s $4 million budget had a cost of nearly $43,000 per pupil.
Since the district struck a deal with Ocean City Intermediate School to take its fifth through eighth grade students, Sea Isle Elementary school will have a $34,000 per pupil cost for 55 students and $21,500 per student cost for tuition of 23 kids to Ocean City.
The budget’s largest line item would be $1.6 million for tuition to other schools followed by the cost of instruction, which includes teachers’ salaries, at $747,000; guidance and child study team at $344,000; operations and maintenance at $327,000; and employee benefits at $326,000.
