Wildwood Invitational Pro-AM Results

By Press Release

COURT HOUSE – This event has grown in leaps and bounds in the past six years and has become one of the Philadelphia PGA’s premier golf tournaments. Just as an example: In last week’s Variety Club Tournament of Champions event held at Whitemarsh Valley CC, the winner, Wildwood Golf & CC’s – John Appleget earned $3,000 for his winning efforts with rounds of 69-68—137. That event was held over two days. The Wildwood Invitational Pro-AM held on Tuesday allocated $3,500 for the winner for a one day event with $1,800 allocated for second and paying nicely down to tenth place.
With a cozy field of just 23 professionals (19 of them playing with three Wildwood Golf & CC members), the quality of the field was very strong with almost half of the players in the top 20 in the points standings in the Philly PGA while six of the players had just finished in the top ten at the Variety Club event last week.
John Appleget of WG&CC and Dave Quinn from The Links Golf Club in Marlton, NJ tied for first with rounds of 73. First and Second Place monies were added and split evenly between them and each received $2,650 for their efforts. Jeff Bonicky, from Sea Oaks Golf Club (who had shot 70 in the Philly Open qualifier at Riverton CC in the morning) came down to Wildwood and shot 74 to tie for second with Rob Shuey of Olde Scotland Yard Golf Center near Harrisburg, PA. and Don Allan from Woodcrest CC with each receiving $750. Five players tied for 5th which was worth $400 each and they were: Matt Crowley of Stone Harbor Golf Club, J.C. Boggs of Stone Harbor Golf Club, Mike Burke from The U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club in Annapolis, MD , Ethan Pauxtis from Cavaliers CC and Bucky Kenneff from Greate Bay CC.
The winning Pro-AM team (two better net balls of four) was Mike Burke ($500), his father David Burke, Dennis Roberts and Ed Sweeney with each of the amateurs receiving $200 in Pro Shop credit.
It was a classic day at Wildwood Golf & CC with the golf course in immaculate condition and the course playing tough with the southwest wind kicking up a bit in the late afternoon preventing this quality field of professionals from beating Old Man Par.
This event’s continued success is primarily due to the efforts of our Platinum Sponsors, Buck Purdy and Ken Battista along with our Club President, Robert Johnson. Without them and their contributions, this event would not attract the caliber of players that is has in recent years. Their goal is to continue to grow this event and make it one of the Philadelphia Section PGA’s majors. They are certainly on the right track.
