Spring Gardening Workshop and Plant Sale at Local Libraries

The Cape May County Library is pleased to offer a Spring Gardening Workshop, the second of a four part series of workshops on gardening, conducted by Karen Williams, a local gardener and owner for twenty years of the “Flora for Fauna Nursery.”

The Spring Gardening Workshop will be held at the following libraries:

Bargain hunters are encouraged to spend the day in Wildwood Crest for the fifth annual Borough-Wide Yard Sale on Saturday, May 3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will feature nearly 200 yard sale locations.

Maps featuring sale locations will be available on Thursday, May 1, at the following locations: Wildwood Crest Borough Hall, 6601 Pacific Avenue; Crest Pier Recreation Center, 5800 Ocean Avenue; Von Savage Memorial Pool, 8800 New Jersey Avenue; and many area businesses.

Yellow ribbons will identify participating yard sale locations on the day of the event.

Join Todd Pover from the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey on Saturday, May 3, for a trek down the pristine beach at Stone Harbor Point for a look at piping plovers, American oystercatchers, black skimmers and, last but not least, least terns.

Learn the backyard beauty secrets of local garden authorities on this 60-minute guided walking tour of the “hidden treasures” in Cape May’s Historic District. Your ticket is also good for admission to the Carriage House Gallery at the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., where you can see the exhibit “Mediums, Well Done: The World of Victorian Spiritualism.” While at the Estate you are invited to stroll the restored Victorian landscape, which includes a traditional oval garden and a manicured herb garden. Tour begins at Washington Street Mall Information Booth, 10 a.m.

One of the Nature Center of Cape May’s most popular programs for all ages! Join our naturalists as they pull a seine net through the waters of Cape May Harbor. Encounter an incredible diversity of marine life in the teeming shallows, and learn about the fascinating lives of the animals that inhabit our coastal waters. Have an up-close experience with horseshoe crabs as we discuss their biology and anatomy. Learn why these living fossils are so important to migrating shorebirds and biodiversity. On Saturdays, April 26 and May 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. get a peak inside some of Cape May’s finest homes not normally open to the public on the Private Homes Tour. These tours showcase Cape May homes from the Victorian era to the 21st century. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the West Cape May History Committee and the Cape Island Questers. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7.50 for children (ages 3-12).

Sugar and spice and everything nice will enhance the tourgoers experience on the Sweet Treats House Tours. Enjoy self-guided tours of five of Cape May’s Victorian inns on Saturday, May 3, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Visitors will sample a different specialty sweet at each location and more treats at the Carriage House Tearoom Café on the grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St. A trolley shuttle will be available and participants will receive complimentary recipe cards. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children (ages 3-12).
