The Cape May Branch of the Cape Regional Medical Center Auxiliary will hold its annual luncheon, card and game party on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Grand Hotel in Cape May. The event is open to the public and all are welcome to attend. Menu choices are Chicken with Mushrooms in Marsala Wine Sauce or Cape May Crab Cake. Reservations and payment of $25 per person are needed by May 13th.

A new event, a triathlon dubbed Tri For Our Veterans, is taking place in Sea Isle City on Saturday, May 24, 2008. The three-part race will begin at 7:30 A.M. and will consist of a 400-meter ocean swim, a 12.3 mile (4.1 mile loop) bicycle race and a 3.1 mile beach run.

Avalon will be holding a Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 26, at 9am. American Legion Post 331 will be part of this event, along with elected officials and various other civic and volunteer organizations. The parade will proceed north along Dune Drive from 34th Street to the 21st Street Veterans Plaza, where a ceremony will take place. There will be a formal presentation of wreaths in memory of those men and women of the armed forces who gave their lives for our country.

Ceremony at Veterans Monument, 1st Avenue and Spruce Avenue, North Wildwood. 10 a.m. Event then moves to American Legion Post 184, Wildwood for all service organizations to attend. Free.

Cape May City will host a Memorial Day Service in Convention Hall beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 26. Participants will include City officials, local veterans organizations, the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
In addition to remarks from the honored guests, the Coast Guard Band will perform and a memorial wreath will be dropped into the ocean from a helicopter at approximately noon following the ceremony inside Convention Hall.

CAPE MAY—Cruise the Delaware Bay aboard the 100-foot Cape May Whale Watcher on Saturday, June 28 during the “Big Trip” Delaware Bay Lighthouse Adventure, co-sponsored by the Cape May Whale Watcher and the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC). The “Big Trip” is a seven-hour voyage of discovery and adventure up the Delaware Bay. See and photograph historic lighthouses that were built during the late 19th and early part of the 20th centuries to aid ships sailing the treacherous mid-channel of the Delaware Bay.

Help the Wetlands Institute staff feed the fish and terrapins, or just watch the turtles chasing minnows and the horseshoe crab gobbling shrimp on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. It’s free with general admission; members are free.

“The RMS Titanic,” a display of memorabilia and information highlighting the RMS Titanic, an Olympic-class passenger liner that sunk on the night of April 14, 1912, during her maiden voyage are featured. The display is presented by Dawn Steelman of Woodbine during the month of May at the Upper Cape Library Branch, 2050 Route 631, Petersburg.

Spring classes for pre-schoolers will be held on Wednesdays and Fridays, April 9 to May, at the Wetlands Institute, 1075 Stone Harbor Blvd., Stone Harbor. Children 4 years of age and older will learn about what’s happening in nature this time of year plus have fun with crafts, stories, activities, adventures in the marsh and more. Classes are 1 to 2:30 p.m. and cost is $60 for members for eight classes, $70 for nonmembers. Individual classes are $8 for members, $9 nonmembers. Free! The 305th Air Mobility Wing will host the 2008 McGuire Air Expo – which is FREE to the public – on May 31 and June 1, 2008.

Headlining this year’s event will be the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. Additionally, the F-15 air demonstration team is scheduled to perform. A large number of current and former military aircraft, including the base’s own KC-10 Extender, C-17 Globemaster III and KC-135 Stratotanker will also be on display.

Enjoy a weekend adventure to see the wild ponies of Chincoteague and Assateague Islands May 31 and June 1 with the Wetlands Institute. Travel from the Institute aboard a comfortable bus, cross the bay on the Cape May Lewes Ferry and continue down the Delmarva Peninsula while enjoying films about the ponies. After lunch enjoy a nature boat trip to look for ponies and birds or visit the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.
