“The RMS Titanic,” a display of memorabilia and information highlighting the RMS Titanic, an Olympic-class passenger liner that sunk on the night of April 14, 1912, during her maiden voyage are featured. The display is presented by Dawn Steelman of Woodbine during the month of May at the Upper Cape Library Branch, 2050 Route 631, Petersburg.

On May 10, the Jays, Cardinals, Orioles and 270 other bird species will take the field (and woodlands, and marshes, and beaches) of New Jersey. Over 100 teams (of avid bird watchers) will go to bat for bird conservation. There are teams birding Cape May County only on bikes and on foot, a team birding only in sand mine properties, teams counting only the birds they photograph, and a team coming from Catalonia, Spain just to bird New Jersey!

The Wildwoods, NJ – New Jersey Thunder Motorsports Inc will host the 16th Annual East Coast Boardwalk National Car Show, Thursday, May 8th through Sunday, May 11th. This four day, island-wide event, is packed from start to finish with activities that are sure to entertain the car lover in everyone. This isn’t your ordinary car show, Thunder Motorsports presents Custom, Classic, Street Rods, Antiques and Import Cars, all displayed on the last true American Boardwalk in the Wildwoods.

Linda Gentille, a world renowned entertainer and pianist will be joined by authentic award winning Flamenco artists on May 10 at the Middle Township Performing Arts Center. The show “Linda Goes Latin” is being presented to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and will feature the most popular musical selections from Mexico, Italy, and Latin America. Songs featured in the performance will include Tico Tico, La Comparsita Tango, O Sole Mio, Girl from Ipanema, Sorrento, Spanish Eyes, Amor, Begin the Beguine and Gentille’s popular piano showstopper flamenco of Malaguena.

To help beautify gardens and patios, the Cape May Point Civic Club’s annual Plant Sale will be held Saturday, May 10, (the day before Mother’s Day) from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Cape May Point Firehouse on Yale Avenue.

The Club will offer flats and half-flats, of young and healthy annuals. There will also be trays of flowers in 4.5 inch pots (8 pots per tray). Handsome hanging baskets and large patio pots will also be available.

The Ladies Auxiliary and members of the Avalon Vol. Fire Dept. are holding their Annual Plant and Hoagie Sale Saturday, May 10, 2008. The Plant Sale will be from 9 AM to 2 PM and the Hoagie Sale will be from 9 AM to 1 PM at the Firehouse 3100 Dune Drive. Avalon Garden Club's 14th Annual Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2008 from 9:00 am till 3:00 pm rain or shine. Contact the Avalon Chamber of Commerce 967-3936 to secure your authorization poster to display at your yard sale. Fee is $10.. A list of registered participants will be available a the Avalon Community Center on the morning of the event located at 30th St & the beach and also in a box in front of the Avalon Chamber of Commerce, 30th & Ocean Dr. All monies collected will go to the beautification of Avalon.

Now is the perfect time to thin out the perennial garden and share some of your garden success with others. Admission to the swap is one plant and a new or used garden tool. The new or used garden tool is your “shower gift” to help the nature center stock up on equipment to use in educational gardening programs. For your admission, you will be entitled to take one “swap plant” home with you. Bring additional plants to swap on a 1:1 ratio. Plants may be dropped off on Friday, May 11th, and you will be given a credit voucher to use on your return on Saturday.

The Nature Center of Cape May will host its annual Plant Swap from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 10. The Plant Swap gives community members the opportunity to share their perennial garden successes with others and go home with a new plant to try. Admission to the event is one perennial thinned from participants’ own gardens and one new or used garden tool. The garden tool, or “shower gift,” will be used in adult and children’s gardening programs at the nature center. In return, participants may choose a plant to take home.

Have an up-close experience with horseshoe crabs as we discuss their biology and anatomy. Learn why these living fossils are so important to migrating shorebirds and biodiversity.
