  • Mack 'N Mancos: To Be Or Not To Be Family Friendly

It's hard to imagine Cape May County without Mack and
Mancos on the walks. I was raised a
local and I must admit that the first time I tasted
the famous pizza was when I was 19 and able to stroll
the boardwalk all on my own hanging out with my
friends in 1999. For my husband however, Mac and
Mancos was an indulgence that was looked forward to
that ushered in the family vacation week at the shore
year after year. Now being a local he holds true to
the tradition to some extent by stopping in
every now and then for our boys to have a taste.

I almost fell over when I read the menu that displayed
the hefty $17.00 price for a large pizza and
conveniently didn't accept credit cards. On the other
wall was a newspaper article reminding their customers
to tip. This tipping notice for some reason disagreed
with me. Is it because I have never waited tables or
that I was somewhat insulted that they could think I
might stiff the person that was bringing me my food?
    Nevertheless, we ordered and ate.

The pizza that was brought to us in less than 5
minutes was still as delicious as my first taste,
served piping hot, fresh out of the oven. I can
    assure you that
this is nothing short of what I would have expected
for a $2.75 piece of pie. Granted, my husband was not as
reluctant to give the company our money as I was, but
it was his memories that we were carrying on. It was
his family traditions that we were passing on to our
children. I must say, at that expense, I guess it is
worth the $2.75 that was shelled out for my piece and
    the 2000 calories consumed.
Sometimes eating delicious pizza is hard work... but if
it makes me a better wife and makes me continue with a
shore tradition, then I am willing to make the sacrifice!

I found myself wondering if $17.00 is the price of
the pie now, when my boys are bigger, how steep is the
bill going to be? If the quality remains as good as
it was today, then I am sure however steep the price
tag, Mack and Mancos will still be filled with
tanned teenagers and families making memories year
    after year after year.

a slice is 2.25 and the article on the wall is discussing whether or not the price of gas is going to affect whether people tip or not and how much the tip might be, trust me i work there
