OFF WITH HIS HEAD - The Purging of Thomas More - An Allegory

Thomas More was beheaded, his head put on a pike on London Bridge and his body buried in an unmarked grave. He later became a Saint. Prior to his beheading he was respected by the populus of England as an honest and upright servant of the people.

IGNORING THE (DIVIDED) ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM

Did I pick a good time to become a political blogger in Cape May County or what? Let’s ignore the (divided) elephant in the room for now. So, what else is going on? Well, the Appellate Division of the New Jersey Superior Court ruled this week that newly minted Wildwood Mayor Gary DeMarzo will have to choose between being a member of the Wildwood Police Department or the City’s Mayor. Tough call.

An Inconvenient Winter for the Climate Change Industry - UPDATE 2/14/10 - UPDATE #2 - 2/15/10

It seems like only yesterday that Al Gore was winning Oscars and Nobel Prizes for informing us that the world was on the verge of becoming a raging inferno where sea levels would rise and flood the upper floors of the Chrysler Building. "An Inconvenient Truth" was a best seller. Gore's slideshow with polar bears clinging to hunks of floating ice were legendary.

Christie's Untouchables

In Chicago in the late 1920's, Elliot Ness needed a reliable team of law enforcement officers to go after Al Capone for violations of the Volstead Act which was used to enforce the Constitutional prohibition of alcohol production. Ness culled through the records of scores of Treasury agents and whittled the group down to a dozen. These were the people that he believed would be above corruption. These were the men whom Elliot Ness determined he could trust in the face of rampant corrupt behavior by the Chicago police and city government. The group became known as the Untouchables.

Wildwood Catholic Uprising?

My father was a member of the first Freshman class at Wildwood Catholic High School in the late 1940's. He graduated from the school, as did my older brothers and sisters. A few days ago, the Camden Diocese announced that the school would close after this academic year due to declining enrollment and budget issues. This has become a more and more typical news item, the closing of a Catholic school.

The Politics of Christmas - Merry Christmas

There are talented attorneys working right now to try and find a way to persuade the Courts to ban the use of the word Christmas in any governmental communication. You see, the word Christmas contains the word Christ which means "the annointed" which refers to Jesus Christ, whom Christians believe is the Son of God, and is God and will one day come to save the chosen and bring them to eternal life.

The Sun Rose and William is Watching Sponge Bob - 11/5 updated thank yous

Losing an election is a unique feeling. It is a public defeat. It is announced in newspapers and on television. Usually, when we fail in life, it goes by unnoticed except by our family and close friends. When it happens, we thank the people who worked so hard to bring us so close to winning. And we, as I do now, wish our victorious opponents the best and the guidance of God as they hold the public trust. There is a great deal of disappointment, especially when we fought so hard and brought so many new people to the process.

When I first started this blog I was headed to the Republican National Convention. Blogging from Minnesota was a lot of fun. We posted a bunch of video from the events out there. When I became a Republican candidate for State Assembly, the Herald asked me to continue. I told them I would try to keep it nonpartisan and talk about the inside of a state office campaign. The Herald said, "Write what you want, we told the other side they can have a blog if they want."

Pet Rock the Vote

Over the course of the summer, John McCann and I have knocked on hundreds of doors and talked to hundreds of other voters at various dinners and barbecues. There has developed one resounding chorus: Jon Corzine must go. Now.
.
You could construe this as a political statement from an opponent, but it is, in fact, what is being said on the street. The voters don't want him. None of them. Not the ones at the shopping center, not the ones at the convenience stores and most definitely not the ones who are answering our knock at the door. Why?
