UPPER TOWNSHIP-- Four people were injured Monday afternoon in a two car head-on collision on Route 49.

The crash occurred just before 5:30 p.m., east of Weatherby Road in the Tuckahoe section of the township. One person had to be extricated from the car they were in by the Tuckahoe Fire Department.

The force of the collision caused the license plate of one car to be embedded in the bumper of the car it collided with.

An unidentified man was airlifted to the trauma unit at Atlanticare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City by South Star medevac. The flight crew reported the man was in stable condition.

Three other patients were transported to Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point by Upper Township Rescue Squad and Belleplain Emergency Corps.

The crash is under investigation by troopers at the Woodbine station.
