SEA ISLE CITY – On July 25, Sea Isle City’s Division of Recreation will welcome Philadelphia Flyers legend Bob “The Hound” Kelly back to the Dealy Field Hockey Court for this year’s Flyers Hooked on Hockey Clinic. The main goal of this one-day event, which is open to boys and girls (ages 6 to 12), is to create hockey awareness among children and teach them how they can benefit from and have fun with the sport of hockey.
Kelly, who was a member of the Flyers’ famous "Broad Street Bullies" team, helped lead the franchise to two consecutive Stanley Cup Championships in 1974 and 1975. Today, he is considered the Flyers’ “Ambassador.”
During the clinic, Kelly will teach the children basic fundamental hockey techniques, run drills and lead the youngsters in other enjoyable activities. He and his staff will also give each participant a free Mylec hockey stick, so the children can continue to improve their hockey skills at home.
According to Assistant Superintendant of Recreation Cheryl Castor, Kelly is very good at his job.
“Bob Kelly is wonderful,” says Castor. “He does a great job with the clinic and the children love him. He always encourages the participants and ensures that everyone enjoys this event.”
The fee to participate in the Hooked on Hockey clinic is $5.00 per child. To pre-register your child or learn more about this popular event, phone (609) 263-0050.
