WHITESBORO — Goo Boo, a two-year-old pit bull, died Jan. 9 after being poisoned. According to his owner, Duane Pitt, Goo Boo didn’t stand a chance.

“They put him to sleep today. They said there was nothing else they could do for him,” Pitt told the Herald.

Goo Boo, along with another dog, Cain, a mixed breed, had been fed drug-laced sausage tossed onto Pitt’s property.

“We received a call on Jan. 6 around 1:45 p.m. that someone had poisoned dogs,” said Township Police Capt. John Edwards.

Someone had thrown a piece of sausage with pills in it onto Pitt’s George Street property said Edwards. Cain ate half the sausage. Pitt was able to see pills in the remaining half. The owner was able induce vomiting in Cain .Some pills came out whole. Cain had not digested them. The remaining half of the poisoned meat was given to police.

Goo Boo, however, was not so lucky. Rushed to Abri Animal Hospital, Goo Boo succumbed to the effect of the drugs.

“It hurt me to my heart,” Pitt told the Herald. “I loved that dog. He was part of my family.”

According to Pitt, this was not the first time his dogs had been fed poison. But this was the first time he was able to get a piece of meat with the poison in it.

“I knew someone was doing something,” said the owner. “But I caught them this time.”

The poisoned meat given to Pitt’s pups by the perpetrator was laced with a virtual pharmacy. One pill was identified by the vet as Revlimid, a drug used to treat multiple myeloma. Side effects of that drug include low white blood cells and platelets along with blood clots in the veins and lungs.

“These are nice dogs,” said Pitt, the owner of five dogs, including Goo Boo and Cain.

One of Pitt’s remaining females, a pit bull, gave birth to 10 puppies a few days before the poisoning.

“They’re lovable dogs,” he said of his dogs. “I don’t teach them to be mean,” he said, sharing that his affinity for pit bulls was developed years ago when he and his grandfather found an abused dog in Philadelphia.

Pitt and his fiancée are the parents of two children, a daughter, 9, and son, 1. Both children were raised with the dogs as their pets.

“My son loved that dog (Goo Boo),” said Pitt. “My son would hang on that dog’s back.”

As Pitt was readying to bury his dog, police are continuing their investigation.

“We are investigating it actively,” Edwards told the Herald, “through our Animal Control Officer.”

I am afraid of pit bulls simply because of the power of their grasp but I would never ever under any circumstances poison one or any other animal for that matter. I own threee small dogs and would be devestated if anything happened to them. My heart goes out to this family. I hpe they find the b******d that did this and deal with him or her accordingly.

I am pit lover myself and own one and these dogs are the best dogs to have when raised correctly. It is not the breed which people do not understand its then owners of this or any breed that makes them the way they are. I'm sorry for your family and I hope that they find this horrible person that did this . Good luck with the puppies as well :)
