SWAINTON -- The animal kingdom at Cape May County Zoo is howling, hissing, growling and roaring over the birth of a male Snow Leopard there.
The zoo welcomed the cub born to Himani and Vijay on May 12, 2011. This is the second litter in two years for 8-year-old mom ‘Himani’ and 11-year-old dad ‘Vijay’. Last year, they were the proud parents of two Snow Leopard cubs born on May 10, 2010.
With the new cub, the Cape May County Zoo became home to five Snow Leopards. There were 15 Snow Leopard cubs born in seven institutions in 2010 and just two so far in 2011, according to a release.
The Snow Leopards are just one species of the more than 250 species and over 500 animals that call the Cape May County Free Zoo home. The Zoo, located at 707 Route 9 North in Cape May Court House, is currently open from 10 a.m. until 4:45 p.m. The Zoo is open, weather permitting, 364 days a year – closed on Christmas Day.
