WILDWOOD -- Special Olympics New Jersey’s Polar Bear Plunge off the Convention Center beach Sat., Jan. 14 drew several thousand. Many took a dip in the chilly Atlantic Ocean while hundreds of others, bundled up against the unrelenting wind, watched and snapped photos of their brave “bears.”
According to the Special Olympics New Jersey website, over $119,000 had been raised at the local plunge as of 3:30 p.m. Jan. 14.
Bathers, clad in everything from Speedos and bikinis to colorful costumes, screamed as they raced from the damp sand into the murky waves. Off to the sides, police and rescue units stood ready to aid any who had overdone their winter sport.

Great cause and we were there to support a frined who was plunging but...~~ we left shortly after getting out of our car and finding that it was a " tailgate" party . The amount of beer in the parking area and even in the convention center was just amazing. We did a walk through with our kids and quickly went back to our car . It is so not a family event. It is more like a Party event. If you are into drinking at noon then this is yoour event~ this is nooo not a place to take kids
