SEA GIRT — Joshua Donohue, 32, of Villas graduated from the 151st Class of the State Police Academy Fri. Jan. 27 along with 85 new trooper’s following 25 weeks of intensive basic training.

Donohue, who was selected president of his class by his follow State Troopers, gave the response from the class speech at the graduation, which was held at the Pine Belt Arena in Toms River.

Donohue’s badge was presented to him by his uncle, New Jersey State Police Lieutenant Karl Ulbrich of Dennis Township.
The keynote speaker at the graduation was the Honorable Jeffrey Chiesa, Attorney General of New Jersey.

“You will be called upon to deal with people who don’t respect our laws and you will be asked on a regular basis to put your personal safety at risk to help others,” Chiesa said. “I admire all of you for having the courage and sense of purpose to commit yourselves to such a career.”

Donohue also received The Superintendent’s Award from Colonel Joseph R. Fuentes.

Donohue’s remarks included the following “We promise to live up to the high standards that have been established over the past 90 years by The New Jersey State Police and we do so with the understanding of the great perils of our chosen profession”.
“Across America, 55 police officers have died in the line of duty since we started at the academy. We would gather together as a class at night to honor these men and woman and to pray for them and their families. Their sacrifices motivated us to train harder and strengthened our resolve to serve the people of this great state with the courage and professionalism displayed by the fallen,” Donohue continued.

Fuentes called upon the new Troopers to display a high standard of conduct.

“Treat this organization as if it were your family because you are now a member of ours,” he said.

Donohue previously served as a Municipal Prosecutor for the City of Cape May and West Cape May.

His father, Edward P. Donohue, recently retired as The Chief Of Police in Lower Township and his grandfather, William B. Donohue, who passed away in May at the age of 76, was a former Chief Of Police from Stone Harbor and an Under Sheriff for the Cape May County Sheriff’s Department.

Trooper Donohue resides in Villas with his wife Jessica and has been assigned to the Bridgeton State Police Barracks as his first duty assignment.
