VILLAS — Public Safety is a “first and foremost” concern in all parts of Lower Township. This week officials made arrangements to provide a “sub-station” for our police officers assigned to the Diamond Beach area in the Sea Pointe Village Complex.

Also, they are accommodating the Lower Township Rescue Squad to be stationed on site with an electrical hook up for the rescue vehicle. Lower Township manager Mike Voll said, “We can’t thank Jim Yost, general manager, and his board members for their caring cooperation.”

The last concern is dealing with the weight limit on the Ocean Drive Bridge for the Erma Fire Department to respond to Diamond Beach if there is a fire call.

They currently need to respond from their Erma Fire Station through Rio Grande, Wildwood, and Wildwood Crest with siren and emergency lights creating a hazard as they try to respond as fast as possible.

The volunteers of the Erma Fire Company do an outstanding job, however this weight limit is a real problem that needs to be addressed immediately by the Cape May County Bridge Commission.

According to a report in an area newspaper today, the Ocean Drive Bridge needs the most repairs out of all their bridges. Lower Township is the largest community in Cape May County and needs to have this critical situation addressed.

Lower Township has a mutual aide agreement with Wildwood Crest Fire Department to respond if there is a “working fire.” Bottom line is that all of our public safety components are in place if needed in Diamond Beach.

Well, I am still sober so even came up with a better idea. Let's get rid of all these petty, inefficient political subdivisions and consolidate into one county operation. Cape May County should administer ALL the governmental operations..schools, fire, police, etc. We just can't afford this small thinking and petty bickering anymore.

I guess your family built Enrico's the Holiday Inn(Grande)too. You must be very wealthy then. It seems to me you're an over zealous blue lighter who wishes WWC had as many runs.

First of all, who will "man" the fire substation? The majority of the people in Diamond Beach are far beyond retirement. I hardly think that an 80 year old man could pass FF1 in order to drive apparatus and don SCBA. Are you trying to tell me that only the Laffey family built Diamond Beach? A little self serving, don't you think?

Wow, coming from someone who has most of their family living in Lower. You just keep playing your blue light games and let the real fireman from Erma take it. Ok Mr. L.

I think the much safer AND cheaper option is for Wildwood Crest to incorporate the Diamond Beach area.
