WILDWOOD – Wildwood and North Wildwood fire departments conducted a joint, eight-hour vehicle extrication training class Jan. 19.
The class was designed to update firefighters on tactics used during motor vehicle crashes. Areas of training included the use of extrication equipment, also known as the Jaws of Life, air-lifting bags, vehicle stabilization, air rescue tools and patient care.
All firefighters rotated through various stations demonstrating competency in use of the tools. The training also included an hour and a half Power Point presentation prior to the hands-on portion.
Annually, the Wildwood and North Wildwood fire departments respond to approximately 30 motor vehicle crashes that require extrication from vehicles.
Over 30 career, part-time and volunteer firefighters participated.
