WEST CAPE MAY — Borough Commission would like to hear comments from residents, pro or con, on moving municipal elections from May to November.
At a Wed. March 14 meeting, Mayor Pamela Kaithern said few comments have been received from voters. She said of those who have “commented quietly,” only one person was opposed to moving the election, due to the “partisan politics of November.”
“Everyone else seems to be in favor because of the cost savings,” said the mayor.
She said six residents were in favor of moving of the election to November.
The pros would be cost savings of approximately $10,000 over 4 years and possible higher voter turnout. The cons would be the borough’s non-partisan election could be influenced by partisan politics and if it does not work for the borough, it could not be changed back to May for 10 years.
