TRENTON – In honor of those who lost their lives to impaired drivers, the Division of Highway Traffic Safety will host New Jersey Remembers, a commemoration, for the second consecutive year in April.

The Division is looking to expand the event this year by inviting new families to honor their loved ones. The event will be on April 24, at 11 a.m., at the War Memorial Building in Trenton.

During the emotional remembrance last year, families that lost loved ones to a drunk or drugged driver participated in a processional, where they were escorted by local police officers and State Troopers. Representing the nearly 13,000 lives lost each year nationwide to impaired driving, the families displayed photos of their loved ones and lit candles to commemorate their lives. As a reminder of the continuing effort to eliminate drunk and drugged driving, traffic officers from around the state were also recognized for their role in enforcing New Jersey’s Driving
While Intoxicated (DWI) laws.

Last year’s event was attended by former Attorney General Paula T. Dow, Division of Highway Traffic Safety Acting Director Gary Poedubicky and New Jersey State Police Colonel Rick Fuentes.
